What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Brinewrack is made by one person. The core is done: you can play from the shipwreck to the final boss. Before adding more islands, I want to see where players get stuck, what feels unfair and what they want more of. Early Access is the honest way to find that out.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Roughly 9 to 12 months, depending on feedback. I'd rather take longer than ship a half-finished 1.0.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“More islands with their own temples and cursed treasure, more puzzle rooms, a fishing rod, a travelling merchant, controller support, and balance changes based on your feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Four islands. The full main story, from the wreck to the Cursed Captain. Survival systems: hunger, thirst, cold, weather, day and night, tides. Four crafting stations, three house types, one temple with puzzle rooms, one boss fight. Three save slots with autosave. Keyboard and mouse only for now.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will probably go up a little at 1.0, once there's more to play. Anyone who buys during Early Access gets everything that comes after at no extra cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Through the Steam discussions and reviews. I read them. A bug report and a "this part was boring" are equally useful.”

About This Game

A shipwreck, a map in three pieces, and gold nobody should touch

Brinewrack is a top-down pixel-art survival adventure. You wake up on the beach next to the wreck that brought you here. Hunger, thirst, cold and the night are your first problems. The last one is the captain who buried his gold on these islands.

Staying alive

  • Keep an eye on health, hunger, thirst, energy and warmth. Rain soaks you, nights get cold, and a campfire fixes more than you'd think.
  • Chop, mine and gather, then craft at the campfire, workbench, forge and drying rack. Tools wear out, so plan ahead.
  • Raise a hut, a cabin or a manor, piece by piece, as you haul in the materials.
  • Snake venom doesn't wear off. You brew the antidote from herbs that grow under bushes, and it's smart to have one before you get bitten, not after.
  • Fish only show up in shoals in the shallows. Miss with the spear and they scatter.

On the captain's trail

  • Put the torn map back together: one piece is in the wreck, one is buried, and one lies by a grave on the far side of the island.
  • Build a raft and sail between four islands in real time. Sharks bite rafts.
  • Work through the rooms of the Serpent Temple: push stone blocks onto plates and light the braziers in the order the tablet hints at.
  • At Sunken Ships Cove the tide decides where you can walk. The galleon's hold is only reachable at low tide, and the water won't wait for you.
  • On Skull Island, the night never ends.

Cursed loot

Some treasure bites back. The Blood Ruby slowly heals you but doubles your hunger. The captain's gold makes every hit 50% stronger, and sends skeletons after you every night until you put it back.

The Cursed Captain

A three-phase fight in the crypt under Skull Island: summons, darkness, then cannons. When the lights go out, your blade passes right through him. Work out what doesn't.

Early Access

The whole story is playable, from the wreck to the captain. Coming next: more islands and temple rooms, a fishing rod, a travelling merchant and controller support.
