About This Game

You only pretended to be one.

After losing your wife under circumstances nobody would explain, you forged an identity, invented a career, and talked your way into a private detective agency. The plan was simple: get close enough to real investigations that one day you could look into hers.

There is one problem. You have no idea how any of this actually works.

Detective Defective: The Insider puts you alone in a crime scene and gives you nothing. Nothing glows. Nothing is marked. There is no button that tells you what matters.

You walk the room. You pick things up and turn them over. You read what is written on them, study the stains, and decide for yourself what is worth recording. Then you fill in a report and put your name on it.

A glass on a table might be meaningless. A cigarette butt might be trash. A single pill under a sink might be nothing at all.

Until it isn't.

Evidence does not disappear when you overlook it. It stays exactly where it was. What you lose is the context you would have carried into the next case.

A symbol on a wall means nothing if you never saw it before. A statement sounds harmless until something you found weeks ago makes it sound like a lie. Cases talk to each other, and only the detective who was paying attention hears it.

And closing a case is not the same as being right.
