What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“CastleGuard: Operation Graveyard is made by a very small team (1 person, yes is small), and a co-op zombie shooter is only as good as it plays with real squads on real servers. Early Access lets us put the core game in player's hands now and shape what comes next with them: balance, difficulty, new maps and the new Extraction mode. Every report sent from the in-game bug tool (F8) reaches us directly.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect the game to stay in Early Access for roughly 6 to 12 months, depending on what we learn from the community. We would rather take the time to get each map and mode right than rush the full release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to add more Classic maps alongside Crossroads, each with its own layout and complete the Extraction mode, expand the arsenal, attachments and camos in the barracks, add more achievements and keep improving visuals, animations, audio and performance, including on Steam Deck. Priorities will follow what players tell us.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The core game is complete and playable. Classic mode offers endless rounds for 1 to 4 players on Crossroads: barricades, purchasable doors, wall weapons, the requisition crate, six perks, a power switch and power-ups. You can play solo online or offline, through matchmaking or in private lobbies with Steam friends, on dedicated servers. There are 18 weapons, and the barracks has 50 levels, 10 prestiges, attachments and camos, with progress saved on our servers. Steam achievements and controller support are in. A second Classic map, Montperrin, and the Extraction mode with its first mission, Road C, are in development and will open during Early Access. Expect balance changes and the occasional bug: we fix what you report as fast as we can.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No. CastleGuard: Operation Graveyard is free to play during Early Access and will stay free after it. To help fund development, we plan to release some larger maps in the future as optional DLC at a small price. The base game and its free maps will remain free, and paid content will never give a gameplay advantage over other players. The optional Supporter Pack remains purely cosmetic.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The in-game bug report (F8) sends your report, with the technical details we need, straight to us. We read Steam reviews and the Community Hub, and every update comes with notes on what changed and why. Balance, difficulty and the order of new content will be adjusted from your feedback and from anonymous gameplay statistics, such as the round reached and where squads fall.”

About This Game

Wave nine. Visibility poor. Good luck.

CastleGuard: Operation Graveyard is a free co-op, round-based zombie shooter for 1 to 4 players. The evacuation is over. You were not on the list. Hold what is left for as long as you can: every round, the dead come back in greater numbers, and faster.

Every window is a way in. Nail the planks back up between waves and shoot through the gaps. Every hit earns points, a headshot more, the knife more again. Spend them on doors, weapons and perks. Points are the only currency, and the horde is the only employer.

Play alone, online or offline, or with three others: matchmaking, or a private lobby with your Steam friends. Whoever goes down has thirty seconds and a pistol. Get to them. A soldier who dies waits for the end of the round.

  • The Outpost: an army quarantine camp behind five metres of concrete and wire. Fifteen breaches in the wall, and the dead also come up through the ground.

  • The Bunker: a concrete shelter on an abandoned airfield. Fifteen windows, and a roof the dead walk across.

  • Crossroads: three streets of a small town the evacuation never reached. A bank, a hardware store, a lounge bar, a motel. Nine zones. The power is out.

Eighteen weapons, all historical but one. Buy them off the walls, the PPSh-41, the Sten, the Mosin-Nagant, the StG 44, or put 950 points into the requisition crate and take what Supply sends: an MG 42, an RPG-7, a Scoped Mauser, a Trench Gun, or the one prototype that throws lightning from one zombie to the next. Supply has never known what it ships. Sometimes the crate is transferred to another counter.

Every match starts with the power cut. The perk machines stand dark until someone reaches the main switch at the far end of the map. Pull it, and the lights come back one by one. Six perks: more health, faster reloads, faster fire, a longer sprint, a third weapon, and a second chance for those who play alone. All of them lost when you go down.

The horde drops supplies too: a full resupply, one-shot kills, double points, and a carpenter's kit that rebuilds every window.

Between matches, the barracks. Fifty levels, ten prestiges. Every weapon levels up with its own kills and opens attachments in four slots, optic, muzzle, underbarrel and magazine, that you see in your hands and your squad sees in theirs. Seven camos are earned weapon by weapon, through kills and headshots. Your progress is kept on our servers, not on your PC.

  • Free to play. Nothing for sale helps you survive. The only purchase is the Supporter Pack, and it is cosmetic.

  • Dedicated servers. Every online match runs on its own server, which has the final word on every shot, every point and every purchase.

  • No anti-cheat software on your PC. The server checks; your computer is left alone.

CastleGuard: Operation Graveyard is free, and it will stay that way. If you want to keep the servers running, the Supporter Pack unlocks the Gold camo on every weapon in your barracks, and your squad sees it. It does not shoot harder. It is gold.

  • 1 to 4 players: solo online or offline, matchmaking, private lobbies with Steam friends

  • Endless rounds against a horde that grows, then runs

  • 3 maps, 18 weapons, 6 perks, a power switch on every map

  • Barricades, wall weapons, a requisition crate that moves

  • Weapon levels, attachments, 7 camos to earn, 50 levels and 10 prestiges

  • Full controller support

  • Steam Achievements
