What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The game is built around playing with other people, and there is only one way to find out how it holds up with real players on real connections: put it in their hands. Online has been tested on a handful of machines, not on a full lobby of strangers spread across the world. Early Access lets us fix what that turns up, and lets the people who play decide which modes and arenas we build next.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect to be in Early Access for six to twelve months. We would rather leave when the game is ready than hit a date, so if it takes longer we will say so on the store page.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“More game modes beyond soccer and dodgeball, more arenas, and more skins. Under the hood, the priority is online: matchmaking that fills faster, and netcode tuned against real-world connections rather than a test bench. Anything the community asks for loudly enough is a candidate too.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is complete and playable, not a demo. Two modes — soccer and dodgeball — across 11 arenas, up to 8 players locally or online, bots at a difficulty you choose so you can play alone or fill an empty seat, a tutorial, unlockable skins, and challenges. What is unproven is online at scale: it works, and it has not yet met a full lobby of strangers.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will increase when the game leaves Early Access. Everyone who buys during Early Access gets the full version at no extra cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Through our Discord, which is linked from this page and from the game's own menu — there is a REPORT A BUG button in game that takes you straight there. We read everything, and the fastest way to change the game is to tell us what is not working or what you wish existed.”

About This Game

PUCKVPUCK is a fast 2D arcade sports game for up to 8 players, local or online. You play as a puck: you boost across the arena, you slam into people, and you charge up shots. Two modes today — SOCCER and DODGEBALL — and more on the way.

SOCCER

Boost across the arena, slam into whoever is in your way, and hold to charge a shot that actually hurts. Seven arenas that change the game rather than just the scenery: a donut with a hole through the middle, a pinball table full of bumpers, and an S-shaped pitch where the goal is not where you expect it.

DODGEBALL

No goals here. Knock the other team out with thrown balls, and remember that every throw explodes three seconds after it leaves your hand. Catch a throw cleanly and the ball powers up: green, then yellow, then BLACK. Each tier flies faster and hits harder, and BLACK cannot be caught or blocked at all. Four arenas, including rotating stages that carry whoever is standing on them.

SOLO, ON THE COUCH, OR ONLINE

Both modes play the same either way. Play solo against bots at a difficulty you choose, fill a couch with up to 8 players on controllers, or send your friends a code and play online. Bots also take any empty seat in a team game, so a match never waits for the last person to show up.

ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK

Ten original tracks, written and played by us — funk, surf and synthwave, no stock library. Every menu and every match runs on our own record.

EASY TO PLAY, HARD TO MASTER

Moving takes a minute to learn. Reading a charged shot, timing a slam into a moving puck, and catching a black ball on purpose — those take a while. A six-step tutorial covers the basics in about two minutes, and it runs the first time you launch the game.

MORE TO COME

More modes, more arenas, and more skins are on the way.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Development of PUCKVPUCK was assisted by an AI coding assistant. It helped write and review the game's code — including the sound effects, which are synthesised mathematically in code rather than recorded or sampled — and it drafted text for this store page. No AI image, audio or video generation models were used: the visuals are drawn procedurally by hand-written code, every screenshot and trailer clip is real captured gameplay, and all music was written and performed by the developers. Nothing is generated live while you play.
