About This Game

Yokai Parade is a resident idle game that lives at the bottom of your screen while you do other things.

Watch the parade

Along the bottom edge of your desktop, yokai amble by. A lantern ghost, a little tofu carrier, a kappa... wondering who'll walk past next is most of the game, and the koban pile up while you wonder.

Open up the board

Spend your koban opening the board, one tile at a time. Depending on where you open, the takings grow, rarer yokai start dropping by, or the parade just gets livelier. The odd purple tile hides a shrine or a torii gate, and word is there are yokai you'll only ever meet by opening one.

Fill the codex

The parade brings familiar faces and the occasional "who is that?". The same yokai might show up as a woman, an elder, a child, or something a touch scarier on certain nights.
Seal the regulars you've seen plenty of, and let the ones you haven't met take their place. Fill the codex to a milestone and the yokai may just throw a little celebration.

Wait for the festival

As the parade rolls on, the festival gauge slowly fills. When it does, the night market bursts into celebration: fireworks, festival music, koban coming in thick. Then it winds down, and the quiet parade returns. Strangely habit-forming, this loop.

It stays out of your way

The whole point of this game is not bothering you. When you start concentrating on something else, the yokai walk even more softly. Clear the background away and the parade strolls right on your wallpaper. Koban keep trickling in for a while even when the game is closed, so open it whenever it crosses your mind.

Day, night, and the moon

The view follows your PC's clock. Morning sky in the morning, night sky at night. The moon waxes and wanes day by day, and if you're up late on a full moon, you might meet a rather special one. Night owls get an always-night setting, too.

Pixel art and music

Everything on screen is pixel art, lit by the lanterns of a nostalgic night market. The music drifts along with the hours and livens up on festival nights. A wordless four-panel comic quietly shows you the ropes.

  • Nothing to click. Koban pile up while you simply let them walk — a true idle game
  • Open up the Growth board to liven the parade, with little secrets waiting on the purple tiles
  • A yokai codex worth filling: alternate forms, star rarities, and a seal system for the regulars

  • When the gauge fills, the night market holds a festival — fireworks and a lively spell
  • Morning, noon, night and a waxing moon, all in step with your PC's clock

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

The pixel art in this game was created with an AI image generation tool (Pixellab).
Generated art is never used as-is: the style, proportions and palette standards are set by a human,
every sprite is reviewed by eye, and anything off-standard is rejected and redone. Grounding,
animation continuity and color consistency are likewise human-checked before adoption.
Game design, balance and specification decisions are made by a human. AI-assisted tools are also
used in the development process.
Nothing is generated by AI at runtime (pre-generated content only).
