About This Game

Your stacker. Your rules. Anywhere.

Fresh Stacker is a fast-paced, highly customizable tetromino stacking game featuring competitive multiplayer and everything you need to sharpen your skills, from guided opener practice to powerful custom training modes.

Handling that feels exactly the way you want it. Modes for chasing records, grinding fundamentals, and building your own challenges. Versus play against friends, strangers, and bots. And a game that works on Windows, macOS, and Linux, with or without an internet connection.

How it started

This started off as a personal project to have a cross-platform stacking game. I really wanted to get better at my favorite game anywhere and everywhere, most importantly, without an internet connection. Thus Fresh Stacker was born.

Every feature in here exists because I wanted it as a player: the handling options I kept hunting for, the training tools I wished were built in, the ability to change the game itself when I wanted to practice one specific thing. It's a stacker made by a stacker.

Compete

Fresh Stacker has a full versus mode built on garbage attacks, combos, Back-to-Back bonuses, and Perfect Clear rewards.

  • Online (1v1 matchmaking): Jump into a public match over Steam and get paired with another player.
  • Lobby (invite a friend): Create a private lobby and invite a friend straight from the Steam overlay. Last one standing wins.
  • VS Bot: Three difficulty tiers, Easy, Normal, and Hard. Easy plays loose and makes mistakes. Hard holds, plans ahead, and goes for T-Spins. Perfect for warming up or for when nobody's online.
  • VS (Co-op, local): Two players on one machine. Grab a keyboard and a controller, or two controllers, press any button to join, and go. Each player's inputs are fully separate.
  • Bot vs Bot: Pick a difficulty for each bot, sit back, and watch them fight. Great for studying how an attack lands, or just for fun.

Incoming garbage shows up on a queue meter beside your board, so you can see the attack coming and cancel it with a clear of your own. Clears get called out on screen (T-SPIN DOUBLE, BACK-TO-BACK, COMBO x5, PERFECT CLEAR), and attacks fly across the screen from your board to theirs.

Train

Opener Practice is a training mode built around the openers players actually learn.

  • A library of 138 named openers across Beginner to Expert, with 631 variations between them. It covers TKI, New TKI, DT Cannon, PCO, MKO, 3D Cannon, Ajanba TSD, Flamingo, Okey Cannon, BT-Cannon, C-Spin, C4W, and many more.
  • A translucent guide overlay shows exactly where the next piece belongs. Step forward and back through the sequence at your own pace, switch between variations, or hide the overlay to test yourself.
  • It plays like a normal board, with a real 7-bag and no pass/fail pressure. Just a calm space to build muscle memory.
  • Browse the whole library from a docked menu that works with keyboard, mouse, and controller.

Custom Lab is a sandbox where you set the rules.

  • Paint the board yourself with the built-in board editor, and drill that exact setup over and over.
  • Choose which of the seven pieces are in the bag.
  • Slide gravity from slow to punishing.
  • Add cheese rows for downstacking practice, or backfire garbage to test your recovery.
  • Hold a button to reset, so iterating on a setup takes seconds.

Zen is a relaxed, endless mode with no pressure, ideal for experimenting, warming up, or just enjoying the stack.

Chase records

  • Marathon (150 lines): Speed climbs level by level. How high a score can you reach?
  • Sprint (40 lines): Clear 40 lines as fast as you can. Every millisecond counts.
  • 4-Wide: Build a four-wide well and keep the combo alive as the target climbs, from 5 to 10 to 15 and beyond. One slip breaks the chain.
  • Stats: Personal bests, fastest times, lifetime T-Spins, Quads, and Perfect Clears are all tracked so you can watch yourself improve.

Make it feel like yours

Fresh Stacker doesn't have a "one true feel." It gives you the controls and lets you dial it in.

Handling, down to the frame

  • Tune ARR, DAS, and DCD with fine-grained sliders, measured in frames at 60 FPS.
  • Set Initial Rotation (IRS) and Initial Hold (IHS) to Off, Hold, or Tap.
  • Adjust soft drop speed, all the way to instant, plus lock delay, gravity, and the number of Next pieces you can see.
  • Fine-tune the quirks: prevent accidental hard drops, prioritize soft drop over movement, and cancel DAS on direction change.
  • Resize the playfield itself by changing board width and height.
  • Modern SRS rotation with full wall kicks, plus proper T-Spin and Mini T-Spin detection.
  • Every setting has a built-in tooltip, so you'll always know what a number actually does.

Full input control

  • Remap every action for keyboard and controller.
  • Controller glyphs adapt to the pad you're using.
  • Controller rumble reacts to your play, with an adjustable strength slider.
  • Menus are designed to work with keyboard, mouse, or gamepad.

Make it look the way you like

  • Window mode: fullscreen, borderless, or windowed. Adjustable render scale and cell size.
  • Swap in your own mino textures. Adjust brightness, borders, and the grid.
  • Style the ghost piece, garbage color, and board, hold, and next panels (colors, borders, rounded corners).
  • Dial the juice up or down: hard-drop shake, line-clear flash, lock shine, wall-bump motion, and particle effects. Turn it all up, or keep it clean and minimal.
  • A dozen atmospheric backdrops, plus animated menu visuals.

Make it sound the way you like

  • Separate volume controls for sound effects, music, and UI.
  • Replace nearly any sound with your own (MP3, OGG, or WAV): movement, rotation, spins, hard drops, line clears, Quads, Back-to-Back tiers, combo ladders, level-ups, and more. Preview them right in the menu.
  • A soundtrack from independent artists, with a menu theme that flows from intro into loop, and separate playlists for versus and for relaxed practice.

Everything saves automatically, and each settings page has a one-click reset if you go too far.

Play it anywhere

  • Windows, macOS, and Linux / SteamOS
  • Offline-friendly: Every solo mode, bots, local co-op, training, and all your customization work with no internet at all. You only need a connection for Online and Lobby play.
  • Light on your machine: Modest system requirements, so it runs on more than gaming rigs.
  • Steam Achievements: 30+ achievements, from "First Blood" to "Stack Champion," with a few secrets tucked away.
