About This Game

What you carry out is yours. What you were carrying when you fell stays down there.

Emergence is a turn-based extraction RPG.

Every run puts the same choice in front of you: keep going down... or head back while there's still time.

The dungeon changes every game. You never really know what's waiting behind the next door, but one thing is certain: if you die, everything you were carrying stays where you fell.

Every descent is a gamble

• Every dungeon is generated differently, with a seed you can share to replay the exact same run — or to show it to a friend.

• Time is working against you. The deeper you push, the better the rewards get... but the riskier the way back.

• Dying means losing everything. Only your recall purse saves what you took the time to put in it during the run.

Combat that follows real rules

Combat runs on the 5th-edition SRD 5.1 ruleset. The same rules apply to you and to every creature in the dungeon.

You roll the dice, you hit or you miss, you get advantage, you suffer disadvantage, you manage your resources... and any decision can turn a fight around.

The creatures you meet follow their own rules too, and they get more dangerous the deeper you go.

Light is your ally... and your worst enemy

Your torch doesn't burn forever.

Seeing further lets you spot danger coming, but it also makes you far easier to spot. Move carefully, make a run for it, or try to stay hidden... your call.

Every item counts

Your bag only holds so much. Every item takes up space, has a weight, and has to be packed with some thought.

When you leave something behind, you really leave it behind. In co-op, another player may well decide to pick it up.

Between runs

Every time you come back, you return to your hideout.

• A stash to put your finds away for good.

• Merchants to bargain with, trade with, and get ready for your next run.

• A workbench to improve your comfort and your capabilities, step by step.

• Contracts that reward the ones who come back alive.

Alone or with friends

Explore the dungeon solo, or in co-op with up to four players through Steam.

You share the same dangers, the same discoveries... and sometimes the same dilemmas. When the bag is nearly full and the exit is still a long way off, you have to decide together: keep going, or head back while there's still time.

I develop Emergence on my own.

I use AI as a tool to produce some of the artwork. The gameplay, the rules, the code and the writing are done by me, with one goal: to make the game I have always wanted to play.
