About This Demo

Four folklores. One Guardian between you and the next. Lead the United States through a complete Expedition stage, bring down its Guardian, and keep winning to unlock China, Brazil and Mexico. About twenty minutes a run.

What happens when Bigfoot runs into Sun Wukong?

No legend covers it. So we built a game where you settle it yourself.

Folklore War Game is a roguelike deckbuilder where the myths of ten nations go to war. This free demo puts four of them in your hands. Choose a folklore, forge your deck along the road, and find out how far a single run can take you.

Probably not far. That's fine. The next one will be different.

Full-game preview: Baba Yaga brings the Russian folklore into the fight.

Every nation fights by its own law — a mechanic no other folklore can touch. Ten folklores in the full game. Four to discover in this demo.

  • United States — The Frontier. Mark your prey and hunt it down, straight past anything standing in the way. Available from the start.

  • China — The Celestial Court. Formations that turn a line of creatures into an army. Unlocks after your first Expedition win.

  • Brazil — The Forest Lives. Growth makes your creatures stronger every single turn. Unlocks after two Expedition wins.

  • Mexico — The Dead Walk. Every fallen ally feeds a Harvest. Unlocks after three Expedition wins.

Each victory opens a different way to play. The full game adds Russia, Japan, Ireland, India, Africa and South Korea — six more folklores, each with a law of its own.

Every Expedition hands out forbidden powers. In the demo, discover Radioactive, Defender, Skilled and Necromancer. They stack on a single creature. Damage effects ride every hit it deals, its breath included. The rules were never meant to survive it.

Turn a creature into a spreading plague, make it strike first on defense, or raise an army from whatever it kills. Then stack another power on top.

Full-game preview: Russia and Japan.

Radioactive + area damage. Freeze the line, then let the poison walk it end to end.

Full-game preview: Japan's Assassin power.

Assassin + area damage. One breath. Six giants.

Full-game preview: Russia's Zmey Gorynych and powers from across the ten folklores.

Four powers, one dragon. Trample, Radioactive, Bloodthirsty and Necromancer on Zmey Gorynych — a single breath ends the war.

Every Expedition ends with a mythic Guardian. Bring it down, claim its spoils — and don't celebrate too early. Some of them get back up. Win the demo's final battle and watch the light take the whole table.

Full-game preview: China faces the Indian Guardian.

Start in Standard, where your deck grows with whatever the road hands you. Collect 20 cards from one folklore and 5 from another to unlock Classic: build 25 to 35 cards before you set out, and the deck becomes your second life.

Branching maps, strange blessings and events drawn from real legends. Rest at the camp, refine and forge your cards, trade with a wandering shopkeeper. Some bargains are worth the curse. Most aren't. You'll take them anyway.

Every run is different. Every deck grows in directions you never planned. Win or lose, the XP you earn stays with your folklore. Level up and add permanent cards to your collection.

Creatures you know. Creatures you really don't. Bigfoot, Mothman and the Wendigo. Sun Wukong and Ao Guang. Saci, Curupira and Boitatá. Kukulkán, La Llorona and Anhangá. All waiting in the demo.

One more run is a warning, not a promise.

Made by a very small team that spent far too long reading folklore books. If the demo hooks you, wishlist the full game and find out how Baba Yaga handles Bigfoot.
