What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“CardAndDungeon combines party-based deckbuilding with procedurally generated, first-person dungeon exploration. Party composition, character-owned cards, encounter pacing, and long-term balance are closely connected, making feedback from a wide range of players especially valuable.

We plan to enter Early Access with the core game loop already playable, then work with players to improve onboarding, controls, UI clarity, party and card balance, and content priorities.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Early Access to last approximately six months, with a target of transitioning to version 1.0 around May 2027.

However, feature completeness, stability, balance, and overall quality will take priority over the schedule. Early Access may last longer if the game has not yet met those standards, and we will communicate any schedule changes in advance.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to provide a more complete, polished, and stable form of the existing party-based deckbuilding and dungeon exploration experience.

During Early Access, we plan to expand and refine the variety of character cards, Relics, monsters, encounters, and rewards. We also intend to improve onboarding and UI clarity, keyboard, mouse, and gamepad controls, party and route balance, visual and audio presentation, performance, localization, and stability.

Specific priorities and content scope may change in response to player feedback and observed play patterns. We will communicate significant changes through development updates.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access launch version is planned to include five playable characters and four main procedurally generated dungeon themes: Stone, Cave, Ruin, and Tomb. Players can assemble a three-character party and complete full dungeon runs.

The game currently includes first-person grid-based exploration, turn-based card combat, character-owned cards, revival through Soul Binding, card rewards and upgrades, Relics, Blessings, Curses, shops, and a variety of dungeon encounters. A short tutorial is included, with English and Korean language support and controls for keyboard, mouse, and gamepad.

The game is playable from the beginning of a run through its conclusion, but content variety, balance, usability, presentation, and overall polish remain in development. We aim to preserve save compatibility and provide migrations when necessary, but major system or data changes may occasionally require players to begin a new run. We will announce such changes in advance.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. The game will be priced lower during Early Access than at version 1.0. We plan to increase the base price once before the full release, rather than with each routine Early Access update. The final price and the effective date will be announced in advance.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to collect feedback through the Steam Community discussions and an in-game feedback link. We are particularly interested in reports about bugs, controls, onboarding and UI clarity, pacing, party and card balance, and requests for additional content.

We aim to share development progress approximately every two weeks and release stable game updates roughly every four to six weeks. Critical issues such as crashes, save loss, or progression blockers may be addressed sooner.

We will prioritize recurring issues and observed player experiences, using that feedback to guide development priorities. Significant changes to the roadmap or our plans will be communicated transparently through Steam announcements.”

About This Game

CardAndDungeon is a roguelike deckbuilding RPG that combines first-person, grid-based dungeon exploration with party-based card combat. Assemble a party of three heroes and face new dangers and rewards on every procedurally generated expedition.

Your Party Is Your Deck

Each hero brings unique cards and a distinct combat role. Your party composition defines your starting deck and available strategies, allowing you to combine different classes into a deck engine of your own.

When a hero falls, their cards lose their normal effects and become Soul Binding actions. Keep fighting to bind your companion's soul back to their body—but those who return from death carry lasting Soul Trauma.

Explore Dangerous Dungeons

Navigate grid-based dungeons from a first-person perspective and discover monsters, treasure chests, traps, shrines, ruins, shops, and other encounters. Choose your route, manage gold, keys, and disarm tools, and descend toward more dangerous floors.

Dungeon layouts, encounters, and rewards change between expeditions. Take the safer path or risk your party for greater rewards.

Master Turn-Based Card Combat

Read enemy intents and targets, then make the most of your limited AP. Combine Attack, Defense, Control, and Party cards with each hero's abilities to overcome your enemies.

Acquire new cards, upgrade existing ones, and refine your deck during the expedition. Relics and Blessings create new possibilities, while Curses and Soul Trauma make the journey increasingly dangerous.

Survive the Soulwell

Your party composition, card rewards, Relics, Curses, and exploration choices persist throughout the run. If the entire party falls, the expedition ends. Adapt your deck, preserve your resources, and brave the ever-changing depths of the Soulwell.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Generative AI tools were used during development to assist with portions of the game’s code, gameplay data, English and Korean text, visual assets—including card, character, monster, UI, and environment artwork—and the creation of music, ambience, and sound effects.

All AI-assisted material was reviewed and selected by the developer, then edited or processed where appropriate, tested, and integrated into the game. The game does not use generative AI at runtime, and no player input or personal data is sent to generative AI services.
