What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Last Store on Earth is an ambitious, systems-heavy project being crafted by a solo developer. Early Access is the most effective way to build it alongside the community right from the start.

The primary goal of Early Access is to involve players directly in the development process. A management sim thrives on the fine details, the balance of its mechanics, and providing an experience that stays engaging for hours on end. That’s why I want to hear your thoughts, gather ideas, and understand what you enjoy most, ensuring the game evolves into the experience you truly want.

The core of the game—restoring a ruined shop and turning it into a thriving business—is already fully playable and offers a solid foundation. Instead of keeping the project behind closed doors for years, I’d rather share this base with you and let every update be shaped by your feedback and suggestions.

Early Access allows me to refine existing systems, add new content, polish the overall experience, and expand the world of Last Store on Earth with your help.

In short, Early Access exists to build this game together with the players, making sure its evolution is guided by those who play it.

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I'm currently planning for Last Store on Earth to stay in Early Access for around 18 months to two years.

I want to be honest about why it's that long: I'm not here to ship something and then disappear. This is a big, ambitious game, and I'd rather give it the time it needs to reach the quality players deserve than rush it out unfinished.

That estimate is intentionally generous. Development may well move faster — and if it does, all the better — but I'd rather set expectations with a comfortable margin and finish early than promise a date I keep having to push back. I'll always prefer to give you good news (it's ready sooner) over bad news (yet another delay).

Either way, I'm in this for the long haul: regular updates, and I'll only leave Early Access when the game is genuinely ready.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version covers the first half of Last Store on Earth: restoring the ruined shop and then running it. That loop is playable now — but it's only half of what I'm building toward.

The full version's biggest addition is a whole second half of the game: a secret underground bunker beneath the shop. I'm planning it as a network of levels to discover, explore, restore, and slowly turn into a functioning underground settlement. My goal is for survivors to come and live down there, with systems to build and craft, grow food using hydroponics, and manage those survivors by assigning them jobs and tasks. The two halves are meant to feed each other — for example, the potatoes you grow in the bunker's hydroponics could be stocked and sold upstairs in the shop.

I also want the world itself to feel genuinely alive. Every character is written as a real person — with a history, a personality, tastes, hobbies and relationships — not a generic NPC that spawns, does its thing and disappears. My aim is for Last Store on Earth to feel like a small, living world full of character, and I plan to keep deepening that cast as the game grows.

More broadly, the goal is to keep expanding the scope throughout Early Access — more content, mechanics and polish across both halves — guided by player feedback along the way.

These are my plans and intentions for the full version, not guarantees, and the exact shape may evolve as development continues.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Early Access build covers the complete first half of the game — restoring the shop and then running it — and it's already substantial and playable from start to finish.

Right now you can:
- Restore the ruined shop by hand: clear out the trash and rubble, mop up puddles, clean the windows, sand and paint the walls, cover old graffiti, and repair what time has broken.
- Bring the power back: fuel and pull-start the generator, flip the breakers, and get the fluorescent lights working over the aisles.
- Run the store: order stock by radio, receive it in crates, restock the shelves, set your prices, and serve customers at the checkout.
- Make it your own: place and rearrange furniture in a build mode, and expand the shop over time.

It's an honest work in progress. The underground bunker half described above is not in this build yet — that's planned for later in Early Access — and I'll keep adding content, mechanics and polish as development continues. As with any Early Access game, you should expect some rough edges and the occasional bug; I'm actively developing and updating the game, and player feedback will directly shape what I tackle next.

The game is currently single-player.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. I plan to keep the price fixed throughout Early Access — it won't change while the game is in development — so players who join early pay the same price the whole way through.

When the game leaves Early Access for its full release, I plan to raise the price by a small amount to reflect the extra content and features added over the course of development. Buying during Early Access will be the best-value way to get the game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Completely — players and the community are going to be a cornerstone of how this game is made, not an afterthought.

Here's how I plan to involve you throughout development:
- Talk to me directly on Discord: I'll be active on the community Discord server, where you can share ideas, ask questions and follow development up close.
- Recurring surveys and polls: I'll run regular surveys so players can help prioritize what I work on next and have a say in features and direction.
- Forums: our website forum and the Steam Community Hub, for discussion, suggestions and reporting issues.
- Feedback and bug reports: send me your comments, bugs and anything you consider relevant — it will directly shape where the game goes.

I mean this genuinely: I want to build Last Store on Earth together with its players, listening and iterating all the way through Early Access. Games are made for the people who play them.”

About This Game

The world went dark. Someone still has to keep the lights on.

You've inherited the last store on Earth — a ruined shop, swallowed by dust and forgotten by everyone — and it's up to you to bring it back to life. Last Store on Earth is a hands-on simulator split into two halves: first you restore the shop, then you run it.

Bring the Shop Back to Life

No one's going to clean up after you. Pick up the trash, bag it, and toss it in the dumpster; mop up the puddles, wash the windows, cover up the graffiti on the walls, and repair whatever time has broken.

Restore Every Corner, By Hand

Restoration is hands-on and meticulous: paint the walls yourself and watch fresh colour swallow up years of grime — just remember to sand everything down first with the sandblaster — bring the windows back to their original shine, and chase down every last stain.

Switch the Lights Back On

And before you can open up, you need power: fill the generator with diesel, pull the cord to start it, and watch the fluorescent lights flicker back to life over the aisles.

Leave Your Mark

With the shop standing and the lights on, roll up the shutters. Order stock, receive it in crates, restock the shelves, and put a price on whatever's left of civilisation. Remember, how your store looks matters — make it your own.

Open Your Doors and Run the Business

Everyone who walks through that door is a real person, with a name, a voice, and a story of their own. Treat them well and word will spread — the world gets pretty small when so few of you are left.

A Simulator Full of Personality

  • Hands-on restoration — clean, paint, repair, and bring every corner of the shop back to life.
  • Full-scale management — orders, stock, restocking, pricing, and the till.
  • Customers with soul — a cast of characters with their own voices and stories, who may or may not come back.
  • Build mode — place and rearrange furniture however you like between shifts.
  • Power and tools — a diesel generator, an electrical grid, and the right tool for every job.
  • A living world — a day/night cycle, rain, and storms over a post-apocalyptic landscape.
  • Exploration and progression — uncover hidden rooms and unlock new furniture, mechanics, and upgrades.

The world is over. Your store isn't.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Last Store on Earth is developed by a single independent developer. To make a project of this scope possible as a one-person team, generative AI tools were used extensively to help create some of the content shipped in the game — including parts of the artwork and textures, some 3D models, sound effects, character voices, and in-game text and translations.

Every AI-assisted asset is reviewed, edited, and hand-integrated by the developer to fit the game's world, tone, and quality standards. No generative AI is used to imitate real, identifiable people or existing copyrighted works.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Last Store on Earth is set in a bleak, post-apocalyptic world and is intended for a mature audience. It has a dark, somber, and serious tone, and deals with themes of survival in a collapsed society.

The game contains references to weapons, violence, death, and drug and alcohol use. There is currently no combat or use of weapons in the game itself, but this is planned for future updates. There is no explicit sexual content.

As development continues, this description will be updated to reflect any new mature content added to the game.
