What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Onward is still in it's infancy in terms of overall design, and game modes. Before the game is considered finished, I want to add more scenarios and environments, improve weapon models and sound effects, and better the user experience throughout early access development. The best way to accomplish this is to get this game out to the public for feedback, so that Onward can be the best game it can be!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I plan to have Onward in early access for 10 to 12 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I would like the full version of Onward to have around 6 to 8 maps, each with day/night modes and dynamic weather, as well as new custom built weapons and characters assets. Once the community has grown and I have stress tested servers, I hope to push the player count up to 12v12. I also want to add a coop "enemy elimination" mode in the future so players can team up together against AI on multiplayer maps, to practice before going to PVP. And lastly I also plan to have deeper steam integration in terms of ranks and achievements.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current state of the game has functioning online multiplayer, two maps with day and night modes, one game type, customizable loadouts, equipment ranging from grenades, flash bangs, and night vision, 28 faction specific weapons, and a shooting range to test weapons.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“There will be an increase in price after Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I plan to involve the community while developing this game by having a public Trello Board for all players to vote and decide what priorities/features should be worked on first. I will also conduct weekly
discussions through the Onward Steam Group, and schedule and dedicate time to play alongside others to gather feedback while in game. I will keep players updated with posts on the Onward Steam page, the Onward website, YouTube channel, and VR Subreddits.”

Hotfix v1.6.2

Hey guys,

Thank you for all the reports and feedback! Today we are releasing a hotfix to address a few bugs.

  • Made post processing color adjustment to Quarantine. (More color adjustments to come, read bottom for more)
  • Fix pickups appearing darkened and disappearing at times.
  • Fix crab walk animation :)
  • Fix prone animation causing a weird lerp when standing up.
  • Fixed voice chat in desktop spectate having intermittent failures.
  • Made various smaller improvements to desktop spectator mode.
  • Added hotkey (R) to desktop spectate mode that aligns your sight with a person's gun sight.
  • Fading when leaving the tent is now based on network time, not real time, so your performance will not make you fade slower.
  • Fix spectate screen in the tent looking surreal.
  • Smoke will no longer be see-through when zooming in on it with a scope.
  • Optimized magazine animations and fixed an exception with them.
  • Fix typo in map description of Bazaar.

More color adjustments to come

We've heard lot's of feedback on map color and brightness and we are going to be making some adjustments. We've decided to delay our last batch of maps, to give us time to adjust, rebake and test our lighting more. We appreciate your feedback and will be taking steps to improve Onward, to make it the best it can be. We apologize for the inconvenience, and will be working hard to get our changes and final map batch out as soon as we can.
