What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Onward is still in it's infancy in terms of overall design, and game modes. Before the game is considered finished, I want to add more scenarios and environments, improve weapon models and sound effects, and better the user experience throughout early access development. The best way to accomplish this is to get this game out to the public for feedback, so that Onward can be the best game it can be!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I plan to have Onward in early access for 10 to 12 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I would like the full version of Onward to have around 6 to 8 maps, each with day/night modes and dynamic weather, as well as new custom built weapons and characters assets. Once the community has grown and I have stress tested servers, I hope to push the player count up to 12v12. I also want to add a coop "enemy elimination" mode in the future so players can team up together against AI on multiplayer maps, to practice before going to PVP. And lastly I also plan to have deeper steam integration in terms of ranks and achievements.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current state of the game has functioning online multiplayer, two maps with day and night modes, one game type, customizable loadouts, equipment ranging from grenades, flash bangs, and night vision, 28 faction specific weapons, and a shooting range to test weapons.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“There will be an increase in price after Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I plan to involve the community while developing this game by having a public Trello Board for all players to vote and decide what priorities/features should be worked on first. I will also conduct weekly
discussions through the Onward Steam Group, and schedule and dedicate time to play alongside others to gather feedback while in game. I will keep players updated with posts on the Onward Steam page, the Onward website, YouTube channel, and VR Subreddits.”

Two new Downpour Interactive team members!

Patrick König

Patrick König joins the Downpour team as programmer! He will be focusing on getting workshop support in to Onward and helping develop the game!

Hi, my name is Patrick König and you might already know me from some of my own projects like Bullets And More (BAM). I have been following the huge development of Onward since the beginning and I'm super excited to join forces and help to make a great game even better.

Favorite thing to work on in Onward?
I'm a programmer all the way and that's why it comes naturally that code is my favorite thing to work on in Onward! I bring a lot of experience from personal game projects (released on PC, iOS, Android) but I also worked on non-gaming network applications written in C++ before I focused more on game development.

Which weapon in Onward do you like the most?
The AK5C because it allows me to also use a red dot sight, suppressor, M9 pistol, smoke grenade and an extra syringe.

Whats your favorite game? (besides Bullets and More)
I definitely have been really into Counter-Strike since the very early days and I still play it a lot with friends but I also really enjoy strategy games and the older Command & Conquer series got a special place in my heart as well.

Which map in Onward do you like the most?
I love Bazaar because it can get super intense and I like the general atmosphere of the map.

What feature do you want added to Onward?
Absolutely climbable ladders. Furthermore I'd really love to see more maps for Onward.

Brad

Hey! My name is Brad and I'm the UX/UI designer on this awesome game! Just like the others on this team, I was a fan first.

Favorite thing to work on in Onward?
While I'm officially "The UI Guy," I enjoy helping in as many areas as I can. With level design, 3D modeling, and some scripting under my belt, I'm always striving to help improve the visuals and user experience of the game.

Which weapon in Onward do you like the most?
I'm a battle-rifle bitch all the way! Give me that SKS!

Whats your favorite game?(besides Onward)
I'm a big fan of hardcore FPS games such as Insurgency and Battlefield (hardcore only). With most of my time in Onward, I usually get a change of scenery when I play Heroes of the Storm.

Which map in Onward do you like the most?
There are a couple maps I enjoy quite a bit, but for me, it's a tie between Bazaar and Quarantine. I'm a fan of the gameplay variety these maps lend themselves to with the long range engagements, tight alleyway CQC, and multiple flanking routes, it creates a fun tension.

What feature do you want added to Onward?
Usable ladders.
