Winning the challenge completes the capture. Losing it can leave your piece exposed and your entire plan in ruins.

During a match, an attempted capture might lead to a trivia question, a d20 roll, tic-tac-toe, four-in-a-row, checkers, a coin flip, or even another game of chess. Every challenge introduces new risks, reversals, and opportunities, but the underlying chess position still matters.
