What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Guaxiang Lu: Trigram Chronicles is a Xianxia-themed roguelike deckbuilder built around the Eight Trigrams and the Five Elements. For this kind of game, card balance, build viability, and run pacing depend heavily on real player feedback. We chose Early Access to refine the core experience together with players—tuning balance, expanding the card pool, and improving builds based on community input, so that the full release is a game genuinely shaped by its community.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan for the Early Access period to last approximately one year. The exact duration will depend on the pace of content updates and community feedback—we prioritize quality over rushing. We'll keep players informed of progress through regular update posts.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“For the full release, we aim to significantly expand the game. Our plans include: at least two playable characters (Early Access features a single character), more enemies and bosses, additional random events and encounters, and continuously refined balance and polish based on community feedback. These plans may be adjusted and expanded in response to player feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Early Access version includes a complete core gameplay loop: one playable character, a card-building system based on the Eight Trigrams and Five Elements, procedurally generated run paths, and a range of enemies and bosses to challenge repeatedly. The game is fully playable across single and multiple runs, with stable core mechanics. We'll continue to expand content and refine the game based on feedback.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to raise the price moderately as more content is added toward the full release. The Early Access price will be lower than the full version, as a way of thanking the players who support us early.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We'll stay in touch with players through the Steam Community discussion boards and update announcements, actively gathering feedback on card balance, build variety, difficulty, and content direction—and incorporating it into future updates. Players' hands-on experience will directly shape our balancing and content decisions.”

About This Game

Guaxiang Lu: Trigram Chronicles is a deckbuilding roguelike built on the Five Elements and the Eight Trigrams. From Qi Condensation to Ascension, walk the cultivator's road toward the Dao and eternal life, one step at a time.

Cast the Copper Coins. The Dao lies in Yin and Yang.

Toss the coins to decide the turn's fortune — every step of the road brings fortune or ruin, unknowable until taken.

At the start of every turn, toss four Copper Coins: heads gather Yang Qi, tails breed Yin Qi. Every card in your hand costs Yin or Yang to play — you don't choose the Qi, but you choose how to wield it. Luck is a resource here, not an excuse.

Five Elements, One Flowing Chain

Metal generates Water, Water generates Wood, Wood generates Fire... Play your Five Elements cards in their generating order to chain cascading bonuses into one seamless combo. At the same time, each element is a full playstyle of its own — will you be a raging inferno that burns the world down, or an unshakable mountain of earth? The build is yours to shape.

A Perilous Road, One Hexagram at a Time

From Qi Condensation to Mahayana, the Eight Realms of Cultivation grow more perilous with every step: demons and netherworld foes bar the way, and forking paths, Fated Opportunities, the Myriad Treasures Pavilion, and Cave Abodes each exact their own price. Die, and the run resets — but gather all eight Trigram Discs, and you may glimpse the Gate of Heaven and open the true path of Ascension.

Guaxiang Lu: Trigram Chronicles currently includes:

100+ playable cards spanning the Five Elements

50+ demons and netherworld foes, each with its own moves

50+ Fated Opportunity events, each a gamble between fortune and ruin

140+ powerful, one-of-a-kind treasures

And much more waiting to be discovered!
