What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Desktop Truck Simulator is designed to be an ambient companion that lives alongside your real-world workflow, whether you are coding, studying, or just browsing. Because it’s a semi-idle desktop experience with unique window modes (like the Taskbar Strip and Corner Mode), testing it across a wide variety of daily routines, monitor setups, and operating habits is essential.

Early Access allows us to gather direct feedback on the pacing of the journey, the balance between active management and passive simulation, and how well the game respects your time. We want to work with the community to refine the in-game dashboard, add the right quality-of-life features, and ensure the game feels perfectly at home on your screen.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We anticipate the game will be in Early Access for roughly 6 to 9 months. This timeline gives us enough room to implement community feedback, add more narrative encounters, add new routes, expand the cassette library, and polish the mechanics without rushing the cozy, slow-burn nature of the game.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full 1.0 release of Desktop Truck Simulator will take the ambient, semi-idle foundation of the Early Access version and significantly expand the world, variety, and personalization options.

While the core desktop experience and UI will remain fundamentally the same, our planned additions for the full version include:

- More Narrative Encounters: A significantly expanded pool of characters, vendor interactions, conversations, and text-based road events to make the world feel more alive over long hauls.

- Deeper Vendor Dialogues: More extensive vendor conversations and character interactions, allowing the people you meet along the road to develop into a much larger part of the experience.

- Expanded Landscapes & Routes: New scenic low-poly environments and routes to explore, with deeper atmospheric and dynamic weather variations.

- A Larger Cassette Library: A much larger selection of lo-fi tracks and collectible audio cassettes to accompany different moods and journeys.

- Extensive Truck Customization: More substantial exterior and interior customization, including truck colors, decals, hood attachments, full interior variations, and an expanded catalog of interactive dashboard trinkets, dreamcatchers, polaroids and unique roadside souvenirs to collect and organize.

- Playable Truck Stop Arcades: Retro arcade machines at truck stops that can be played during your journeys.

- Cabin Pets: Customizable pets that can accompany you inside your truck and become part of your cabin.

- Continued Workflow Polish: Ongoing refinement of the Taskbar Strip and Small Corner modes based on community feedback, ensuring seamless, zero-intrusion integration across a wider variety of monitor setups and resolutions.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The core "ambient logistics" experience is fully playable and stable. In the current build, you can:

- Use all three window modes (Taskbar Strip, Small Corner, and Medium/Full-Screen).

- Pick up and deliver initial cargo types (like retro consoles and coffee beans) across the starting scenic low-poly landscapes.

- Stop at early roadside locations, collect a few initial dashboard trinkets, and experience a baseline set of atmospheric text-based road events.

- Interaction with the dashboard deck to check collections or play a starting selection of lo-fi cassette tapes.

While the foundation is solid, the Early Access period will be used to expand the content pool (more vendor stories, events, truck stops, trinkets) and refine the balancing.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We currently have no plans to increase the price when leaving Early Access. Our goal is to make the 1.0 release a substantially larger, more polished, and content-rich experience while keeping the same price.

Even if we're able to expand the volume of dialogue to something closer to what you would find in visual novels on the market, which is one of the main aspects of the game we want to focus on, we don't think that alone would justify a price increase.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community will be heavily involved through the Steam Community Hub and our Discord server. Because this is a game about personalizing your space and relaxing, we want to hear what the community wants to see next:

- Content Ideas: We will run polls and discussions for new dashboard trinkets, cassette tape genres, cargo types, and late-night roadside characters.

- Workflow Integration: We need player feedback on how the game interacts with different desktop environments to refine the Taskbar and Corner modes.

- Pacing & Balance: We will actively listen to how players feel about the game's progression, and event frequency to ensure the game remains a stress-free background companion rather than a distraction.

We also plan to share our Trello board of development with the Community so they can see what we are currently working on and help us decide what features to work on next.

The Community will be the first to beta test pre-Early Access builds and be provided forms to offer their feedback. ”

About This Game

Turn your screen’s idle time into a cozy highway journey.

Desktop Truck Simulator is an ambient, cozy trucking and logistics game designed to live alongside your daily computer workflow. Whether you’re writing code, studying, or browsing, a tiny lo-fi truck travels across your desktop, delivering retro game consoles, potted succulents, and warm coffee beans through scenic, low-poly landscapes.

It’s not about high-octane racing; it's about the peaceful hum of the engine, the glow of the dashboard at 2:00 AM, and the gentle progression of a long-haul trip.

Key Features:

  • Designed for your Desktop (Multiple Window Modes):

    • Small Corner Mode: A compact window that sits neatly in your screen's corner.

    • Medium / Full-Screen Mode: Pull over, open the cab, and take active control to customize your rig, browse the job board, socialize at stops, resolve roadside events, and plan your next route.

    • Taskbar Strip Mode: A minimalist, zero-intrusion visual journey running right above your Windows taskbar.

  • Dashboard Terminal: A compact terminal sits at the heart of your dashboard, putting everything you need for the journey within reach. Manage your drive, check your route and fuel level, and keep an eye on the road from the comfort of your cab.

  • The Cassette Deck: Collect cassette tapes and choose the music for your journey. Pop a tape into your dashboard deck and settle into warm lo-fi beats, the soft hiss of analog audio, and rain against the windshield.

  • A Personal, Lived-In Cab: Personalize your truck’s dashboard with unique trinkets bought from roadside vendors or found along the road. Pin polaroids of your scenic photo-stops to your sun visor, and watch your passport accumulate beautiful stamps from every city you visit.

  • Warm Drinks and Lonely Roads: Pull over at uniquely stylized low-poly truck stops, from neon-lit cyberpunk harbors to snowy mountain lodges. Rest, refuel, take photos, and share quiet, heartfelt conversations with late-night characters like ex-hauler baristas, retired radio hosts, antique vendors, or a slightly glitchy retro vending machine AI.

  • Atmospheric Road Events: While you work, the highway tells its own stories. Encounter light, text-based narrative moments, from mysterious radio transmissions meant for someone else, to a stranded mechanic in the rain, to cozy late-night thoughts.

  • Late-Night Conversations: Pull into a truck stop, grab a warm drink, and settle in for a conversation. Get to know the colorful people who live and work along the highway, with stories that unfold across multiple visits.

Progression That Respects Your Time:

  • Active Management: Pick up contracts, customize your rig, make crucial choices when events pop up and socialize with people on roadside stops or take a few pictures.

  • Passive Simulation: Keep the truck alongside your desktop while you focus on your real-world tasks. Your mileage accumulates, day transitions smoothly into night, and weather shifts as the journey continues.

Put on your favorite cassette, grab a hot mug of coffee, and let the road keep you company.
