Why Early Access?

“We're releasing Backrooms With Friends! in Early Access because it's a game built around exploring an ever-expanding, procedurally generated liminal space, and we want that expansion to be shaped by the people actually playing it. Early Access lets us get the core gameplay loop into players' hands now, gather feedback on level design, difficulty, and multiplayer experience, and use that feedback to guide what we build next.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Backrooms With Friends to be in Early Access for approximately 1-2 years. Enough time to expand the level roster, refine multiplayer stability, and act on community feedback before a full launch.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to add more procedurally generated levels, including ones requested by the community. We also plan to introduce character customization options, and we're looking at expanding features like different game modes, matchmaking and level progression systems. Our overall goal is to grow the game's scope well beyond the current 4 levels while keeping the core exploration and multiplayer experience intact. As with any Early Access title, plans may evolve based on player feedback and testing.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version currently includes 4 playable, procedurally generated levels. Each of these levels is fully functional and polished in its current form, you can jump in and play a complete experience today. We have further updates planned to expand on this foundation over time.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We're not currently planning on changing the price when we leave Early Access. ”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to actively involve the community throughout development: collecting feedback and level suggestions through Steam forums, Discord, and so on, running polls or votes on which requested levels and features to prioritize, and sharing regular development updates. Player feedback from Early Access will directly help shape which levels, customization options, and features we focus on next.”
