What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I’m building ORION as a solo developer, and I want player feedback to help shape the game while there is still room to make meaningful changes.

A grand strategy game needs to hold up across long campaigns and very different ways of playing. Early Access will help me understand where ORION is rewarding, where its systems need balancing, and where the experience becomes confusing or repetitive.

My focus during Early Access will be improving the core experience: stronger AI, clearer interfaces, better performance, and more meaningful strategic choices, deepening internal and external politics, belief system and a lot lot more things. Your experiences, suggestions, and bug reports will help me decide where to put my development time first.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I currently expect ORION to remain in Early Access for approximately [24-48 months] minimum. As a solo developer, I’ll adjust that estimate as development progresses and player feedback helps identify what needs more work.
There is a lot of content/art work to be done for the game.
The full release will depend on the game’s stability, balance, performance, and overall experience. I’ll share progress updates and communicate any changes to the expected timeline.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“For the full version, I plan to deepen and refine ORION’s core strategy experience, with more capable AI, better balance, clearer interfaces, improved performance, and a more helpful introduction for new players(as there are currently not really anything to hold hand only a help menu, no interactive tutorials ect).

I also aim to expand the variety of events, anomalies, technologies, art work/ shipsets, and empire development options, giving players more meaningful choices throughout a campaign. Further work on politics, diplomacy, and late-game challenges is part of that vision.

The final scope may change ,but all in all the aim is a great and immersive experience while still heavy focus on performance of the game.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Orion’s Early Access version includes the core space grand strategy experience: exploring a generated galaxy, colonizing planets, managing your economy and population, researching technologies, designing ships, and commanding fleets. Diplomacy, trade, espionage, internal politics, planetary invasions, and mid- and late-game crises are also implemented. Single-player and multiplayer modes are available.
The game remains under active development. AI behavior, balance, the interface, and performance—particularly in large galaxies and busy late-game campaigns—continue to be refined. Players should expect bugs, rough edges, and systems that change as development progresses. Early Access feedback will help guide improvements to clarity, stability, and the overall campaign experience.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I plan to offer ORION at a lower price during Early Access and increase the price for the full release as the game becomes more complete and polished. I’ll announce any price changes in advance.

Players who purchase ORION during Early Access will receive the full release at no additional cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I plan to use the Steam Community discussions to gather feedback, bug reports, and suggestions, and share development updates through Steam announcements.
Also planning on discord server and a youtube channel where i will post updates, and some behind the scene struggles :).
I’m especially interested in hearing about your campaigns: which strategies feel rewarding, where the AI struggles, which systems are confusing, and how the game performs as your empire grows. These experiences will help me prioritize fixes and improvements.

As a solo developer, I won’t be able to implement every suggestion, but I’ll use community feedback alongside my vision for ORION to guide development and explain the decisions behind major changes.”

About This Game

ORION is a real-time 4X grand strategy game. Guide a young civilization from its homeworld into a procedurally generated galaxy full of wornders, and build an empire through exploration, diplomacy and war.

----------------------------------

EARLY ACCESS ROADMAP (for now)
ORION enters Early Access in December 2026. We expect the full release between Q4 2027 and Q2 2028. The game is playable from start to finish now. Updates will follow this plan, shaped by your feedback:

  • Early 2027: smarter AI that uses every system in the game; a military operations planner for multi-fleet campaigns; more music and sound; faster loading when entering star systems

  • Mid 2027: new governments, faiths and ethics; readable content files and a modding reference; balance and quality-of-life updates
Start on procedural galaxy content generation(No pre made event chains. Only building blocks so its easier to keep the galaxy interesting, old authored events/anomalies will still work and can new fully authored event chains be created)

  • Late 2027 to Late 2028: more crises, events and megastructures; multiplayer improvements; full release

----------------------------------

EXPLORE AND EXPAND
Survey star systems, chart hyperlanes and investigate anomalies. Claim resource-rich worlds, found colonies, and push your borders as far as you can hold them.

BUILD YOUR EMPIRE
Develop planetary districts, group colonies into sectors and appoint governors to run them. Keep your population housed, fed, employed and content. A strong economy keeps your shipyards and your wars going.

SHAPE YOUR SOCIETY
Choose your government, ethics, policies, traditions and faith. Political factions, leaders and the beliefs of your people pull in their own directions, and unrest follows when you ignore them.

DIPLOMACY AND INTRIGUE
Every civilization has its own values and ambitions. Trade, open borders, sign defensive pacts, form federations, or take subjects. Share or withhold intelligence, send operatives into rival territory, press claims and negotiate peace.

SHIPS AND WAR
Research hundreds of technologies across Physics, Society and Engineering. Design warships from weapons, shields, armor, reactors, drives and stealth systems. Build fleets from templates, refit them as technology advances, fortify key systems, and invade enemy worlds with ground armies. Wars are won through objectives, occupation and war exhaustion as much as firepower.

CRISES AND WONDERS
Build megastructures from ringworlds to  Dyson spheres. Face mid- and late-game crises such as plagues, dying stars, machine networks and threats from beyond known space.

MULTIPLAYER
Play with friends online through Steam or over LAN.
