About This Game

In contrast to its medieval predecessor The Book of Plagues, the second installment transports players to an era of steam engines, machine tools, silent films, and vinyl records.

The city of Grizmar is an industrial giant, where assembly workshops stand side by side with bakeries, and a flower shop sits next to a butcher’s.

A mysterious organization known as the Collective rules from the shadows. It promotes ideas of equality, collective responsibility, and shared prosperity, while despising wealth and harshly punishing anyone who refuses to follow its rules. However, cruelty always breeds resistance of another kind.

Then False Death appeared in the city — a plague that steals souls and turns bodies into soulless dolls, doomed to endlessly repeat the last hours of their lives.

You are a young doctor who fled from a camp for those who reject the authority and brutal methods of the Collective. To survive in a city gripped by the epidemic, you take control of an old lazaret on the outskirts of Grizmar.

Now you must hide your past and avoid the coroner, who is hunting down escapees. Every day you receive patients, conduct examinations and treatments, grow ingredients, brew and sell medicines.

Your successes in treating the sick and preparing remedies directly or indirectly affect the fate of the city and its inhabitants — how far False Death will spread its black wings.

And if a patient does die, you always have a private crematorium at your disposal. Burial is strictly forbidden in Grizmar — the dead can wake up.

There are no simple outcomes here. The fates of patients are closely intertwined. The successful treatment of one person can positively affect an entire district, while failure or death can trigger a chain of events that touches many others.

Every diagnosis, every method of treatment, and every outcome directly or indirectly affects the city and its inhabitants. A doctor’s reputation carries real weight here — it influences not only how much patients trust you, but also your own safety.

Read the newspapers and letters, speak with the merchants. Only then will you be able to understand what consequences your successes and failures in treatment have truly left behind — and how much they have changed the city.

By your side is always Bella the Crow — a white raven with a dark sense of humor. She offers valuable medical advice and helps peer into the darker corners of patients’ minds.

Bella can read thoughts. This allows her to uncover secrets that patients prefer to hide and drag out skeletons from their closets. Her abilities are especially useful when a patient withholds the true cause of their illness or fails to mention a shameful allergy to certain medications.

The Book of Plagues 2 is a dark story filled with complex characters and heavy events. In Grizmar, you will treat a wide variety of people: brutal policemen and refined ladies, madmen and talented artists. Each of them possesses their own power and can influence the course of events — for better or for worse. Sometimes, saving one person can bring trouble to many others.
