About This Game

Urban Explorer: Baldwin is a horror game that centers on an adrenaline junkie poised to take their next venture into the abandoned. A violent storm causes them to divert to Baldwin, Wisconsin, where the discovery of an abandoned industrial district sparks excitement and promise. However, this unexpected jackpot may be much more sinister than once thought. Notes that were left behind hint at the reasons for its abandonment, and what the EPA was sent in to cover up. Explore the town on foot, search for keys, and hide from the horrors that stalk a once prominent, now abandoned hotel. Perhaps there's a reason some places wither away silently, for the horrors they hide may be far worse than imaginable. In fact, some places may not be worth saving.

The Story

As the car pulls up to the gates of what looks like a once fenced-off area of Baldwin, we exit the car to an increasingly hectic storm. With a phone in hand as our only trusty companion, we are forced to brave the elements in search of refuge for the night. With all of these buildings around, there must certainly be a good spot to explore, right?

Aided by the flashlight on our phone and the dimly-lit streets of a podunk town, we begin to uncover exactly why this area was so quickly left behind. Notes that are found around the town reveal secrets that weren't meant to be uncovered: governmental disaster, mysterious companies with sinister operations, and a seemingly blood-thirsty cult forged from the remains of something gone wrong all expose themselves before us as our initial urban exploration turns into gruesome discovery.

Inspired By

Urban Explorer: Baldwin is a love letter to the slow-burn horror of games like Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Outlast, with the analog dread of a classic PS1-era survival horror.

This game was created by a small indie team. Every tree in the wind, every dreadful hallway, every document was hand-crafted to keep you on edge in an unfamiliar world.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Urban Explorer: Baldwin is a first-person horror game. It contains the following content that some players may want to be aware of:
Violence: The game features recurring depictions of blood (stylized, low-poly PSX-era visuals rather than realistic or graphic detail) and character corpses encountered throughout the environment. Players may be pursued and attacked by hostile creatures.
Suicide: The game depicts one character's death by suicide as part of the story, shown as a low-poly body with blood present; this is not graphic but is a clear narrative depiction.
Crime: The story involves a criminal cover-up, a violent cult, and captive/experimented-on individuals as central plot elements.
Frightening content: As a horror game, Urban Explorer: Baldwin includes sustained tension, jump scares, and psychological horror themes throughout.
Language: Occasional strong profanity appears in collectible notes and audio logs.
