What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“PaddleBoys is built on a format players already know, then layered with the things we think make it fresh: four-way elimination, team doubles, a turn-based Circle duel, chaos powerups, and spin-and-charge shots. The core game is here and fully playable today. Early Access is about refining and expanding those ideas alongside the people actually playing them.

A game built around multiplayer and group play is hard to perfect in a vacuum. We want real matches between real players to tell us what feels great, what needs balancing, and which modes earn a permanent spot in the rotation. That feedback will directly steer the advanced features and the overall look and feel of group play as we keep building.

We would rather grow PaddleBoys with its community than guess in isolation, and Early Access lets us do exactly that.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We are planning for roughly 2 to 3 months in Early Access, though that may flex depending on the scope of the features we take on and where community feedback points us. The goal is a focused Early Access period rather than an open-ended one, but we would rather ship a full version that is genuinely ready than rush to hit an arbitrary date.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is about taking what works in Early Access and making it sharper, deeper, and more competitive. Planned improvements include:

- Polish across the board: tighter game feel, better balance, more refined visuals and audio, and the stability that comes from real player testing.
- Deeper Steam integration, such as achievements and a smoother flow for inviting friends and dropping into matches together.
- Leaderboards, starting with Solo Rally and the shared Daily Challenge, so chasing the perfect run actually counts.
- More deterministic online play, so matches stay tight and fair and every player sees exactly the same game, which keeps competitive results trustworthy.

Community feedback during Early Access will guide how far we take each of these and which modes we expand, so the 1.0 release reflects how people actually play.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“PaddleBoys is roughly 70 percent of the way to the gameplay we are aiming for, and it is genuinely playable today.

What is in and working now:
- All five modes are playable: 2-player Duel, 4-player elimination, 2v2 Doubles, the turn-based Circle duel, and Solo Rally.
- Local play for 2 to 4 players on one screen, plus online play through Steam (and LAN).
- AI opponents from Easy to Insane that can fill any empty slot.
- The full mechanics toolbox: spin, charged shots, multi-ball, seven powerups, and customizable match rules (score, lives, sets, timer, paddle size, ball speed, and more).

The core physics already feel the way we want them to, and online play is largely responsive, with several measures in place to smooth out the impact of latency.

What is still in progress:
- Balancing and refining the newer modes and powerups based on how people actually play.
- Hardening online play across every mode and edge case, especially with larger groups.
- The polish, leaderboards, and deeper Steam integration described above.

Expect a solid, fun foundation today, with some rough edges we will be smoothing out across Early Access. If you hit a bug or have an idea, telling us is exactly the point.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No, we do not intend to raise or change the price when released.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will follow the Steam forums around this game, as well as any user communities that spring up in support. We'll look forward to reading direct user feedback about feel and quality of the experience, especially competitive online play.”

About This Game

PaddleBoys

The paddle never left. It just got faster, meaner, and a whole lot more crowded.

PaddleBoys takes the most timeless duel in gaming and cranks it into a physics-driven arcade brawl. Bend the ball with spin, charge up a curving rocket shot, drop chaos powerups on your rivals, and fight over a single ball with up to four players. Grab a friend on the couch, queue up online through Steam, or test yourself against AI that scales from "gentle warm-up" to "did it just read my mind?"

Five ways to play

  • Duel (2P) - Classic left-vs-right action, refined. First to the line takes it... unless someone curves one past you at the buzzer.

  • Quad (4P) - Four paddles, four sides, last one standing wins. Run out of lives and your goal seals into a wall.

  • Doubles - 2-on-2 team play. Cover your half, set up your partner, and own the rally.

  • Circle - A turn-based keep-up duel in a circular arena. Land your shot, then sweat your rival's.

  • Solo Rally - Chase the perfect streak. Daily Challenge gives everyone the same seed: same bounces, same spawns, pure skill.

Play together, anywhere

  • Online multiplayer over Steam, plus LAN for the purists.

  • Local play for 2-4 players on one screen.

  • Drop-in AI fills any empty slot, with difficulty from Easy to Insane.

Simple to grab, deep to master

  • Charge your shot to bend the ball with spin and English.

  • Seven powerups: freeze a rival, shrink their paddle, raise a wall, or unleash a max-spin curveball.

  • Multi-ball mayhem, slow-motion finishes, and rally trails that ignite the longer you survive.

  • Tune the match your way with win score, lives, best-of sets, timer, paddle size, ball speed, spin intensity, and powerups on or off.

Easy to learn. Impossible to put down. Bring friends. You'll want someone to blame.
