What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Friend and Foe is fundamentally a multiplayer game that also supports robust single player gameplay. Multiplayer balance depends on real player behavior hard to mimic through bot testing. Going early access allow me to gather actual gameplay data, expand content based on player voice and iterate balance with the community. ”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Until the game is polished enough and reasonably balanced. I envision the early access taking around 6 - 9 months. ”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I plan to include the following in the full version - Expanded card pool, implant pool and ship modules. More SFX/visual polish. MP and SP balance iterations. New modes (modifiers, extra difficulty).
I also plan to replace the AI generated arts and models with real commissioned art. ”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version is fully playable: four classes, four floor roguelike runs, hundreds of cards and enemies, online multiplayer for up to 8 players with co-op and competitive scoring. For the full feature list, please see the About This Game section above.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“During the early access time the price will stay the same, but the price may increase slightly when the game leaves early access”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I plan to primarily listen to community feedback through the Discord server, and will also monitor the support email and social media (such as Reddit and X). Player feedback will directly inform balance changes, content priority, and shape the roadmap throughout Early Access. I plan to post regular dev updates on the Steam Community page to keep player informed”

About This Game

Friend and Foe is a hex-based deckbuilding roguelike. Build your deck, slot implants, rig out your ship, and outmaneuver friends and foes.

Tactical hex combat

Combat happens on a 9×5 hex grid. Draft and play cards of different ranges, capabilities and costs. A unified Action Point system means you spend AP to draw and to play — no dead draws, no cards rotting in your hand. Play team cards to help your friend, or sabotage cards to bury them.

Play how you want

Up to 8 player supported, play with friends and embrace the chaos, or fill the lobby with bots and refine your strategy. Player can choose free for all or team mode, plus disabling sabotage and/or team card to better fit your playstyle. A smart AI auto-play mode handles combat for you when you'd rather focus on deckbuilding and exploration.

Map reimagined

No full-floor reveal up front. A fog of war system uncovers the map as you explore, and you can backtrack to any visited tile, rewarding both exploration and snap decisions. Fuel system lets you push deeper for more rewards or sprint for the boss early.

Unique set of characters

Four classes, each with a unique passive, a starter implant, and a class-specific card pool. Endlessly replayable.
