What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Grinner's Diner runs on chaos between friends: physics food, proximity voice, and nights that fall apart in a different way every time. We can't tune that alone. The core loop is here and it's a blast, but we want real crews in real sessions telling us what's funny, what's unfair and what breaks. Early Access lets us grow the menu, the kitchen and the cryptid roster with you instead of guessing.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“About 6 to 9 months. That estimate will change as we learn from players, and we'll post an update whenever it does.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“These are plans, not promises. Here's what we're cooking:
- More cryptids, each with its own way to be served or survived (the Wendigo, Mothman and others are in the works), and darker cryptid recipes (yes, including a crewmate's arm).
- More dishes on the menu and more kitchen appliances to buy and place.
- A full art pass that replaces any remaining placeholder objects and stand-in animations, plus more diner layouts.
- More settings and better onboarding for first-time crews.
- Balance tuning for solo crews and 2 to 4 players, based on your feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Playable from start to finish as an endless run, solo or with 2 to 4 players. One diner with a drive-thru window, a counter and tables; burgers, fries, onion rings and chicken tenders, plus three dishes only cryptids order; day and night shifts that keep getting busier; the Jersey Devil at the window; blackouts and the breaker run; something in the dark outside; the woods behind the diner and what lives in them; the walk-in freezer; lockdowns after closing; a shop between shifts; the crew's shared nerve; and spectating until dawn when you die. Proximity voice chat and controller support are built in.

Expect rough edges. Some objects are still simple placeholder shapes, some creatures still move with stand-in animation, and balance and pacing are still being tuned. We patch often, and the Steam discussion forums are the best place to tell us what broke.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price may go up at full release as the game grows.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Through the Steam discussion forums for Grinner's Diner. We read every thread, post patch notes for every update, and ask crews what to build next. The best bug reports come from crews who say "huh, that's weird," so please post them.”

About This Game

Welcome to the night shift.

Grinner's Diner is a roadside burger joint deep in the Appalachian hills. The pay is bad. The fryer is worse. And once the sun goes down, the regulars stop being people.

Grab up to three friends (or brave it alone), flip the sign to OPEN, and cook every order with your own two clumsy physics hands. Grill the patties. Drop the tenders. Stack, sauce, bag and throw. Food flies through the drive-thru window, across the kitchen, and occasionally into a coworker's face.

Serve the humans...

  • Burgers, fries, onion rings and tenders, built by hand, one wobbly layer at a time
  • A drive-thru window, a counter and tables, all yelling for food at once
  • Proximity voice chat, so you hear the panic from across the kitchen

...then feed the things that aren't.

The Jersey Devil doesn't want a bag. It hovers at the pickup window, jaws open, and you'd better land that burger in its mouth. Miss, and it screams. The lights die. Someone has to walk out to the breaker in the dark, and something past the parking lot has been waiting all night for exactly that.

Cryptids only eat cryptid food. The good stuff is kept at the back of the walk-in freezer, and the back of the freezer is further away than it should be. Wild ramps grow in the woods out back, where something stands at the tree line, perfectly still, watching you work.

Lock the doors at closing.

When the night runs out, get everyone inside, slam the shutter and hold the diner while the crowd from the trees tries to get in. Patch the doors. Keep the lantern lit. Don't go outside.

How many nights can you keep the grill on?

Every customer you let down chips at the crew's nerve, and the lower it gets, the more of your customers have too many teeth. Dead crewmates spectate until dawn and can talk to each other, but the living can't hear them. Each shift is busier than the last. There's no finish line, just how long you last.

Some cryptids shown in the teaser trailer are coming during Early Access.
