What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Apple Man Sam is a solo project, and early access is the right way to build it at that scale.
Two reasons for going EA. First, it lets me match scope to interest — if there's appetite for more, I'll keep building (more modes, content, better art, whatever the game needs most). If the audience is smaller, I can still deliver a tight, polished game without overpromising.
Second, a game like this needs more than one pair of eyes on balance and feel. I can only test so much on my own, and EA is how I get it in front of enough players to actually sharpen it up.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“A range of 6 to 12 months post early access launch would be the duration of the Early access period.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The core gameplay loop will be the same — what changes in 1.0 is scale and polish. Expect more maps, more loadouts, more items, quests, and achievements, plus a full pass on visual and audio assets to bring everything up to final quality.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The core gameplay loop, progression systems, and visual direction are all in place. At EA launch you can play: 3 loadouts, 1 map, 75 items, plus endless mode and leaderboards. Core balance is solid but will keep getting tuned from feedback. What's still coming during EA is more of everything — additional loadouts, maps, items, quests and achievements, upgraded art and audio, and anything worth adding that surfaces from playtesting.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No pricing difference will take place after early access has ended.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“A Discord server with dedicated channels for bug reports, balance feedback, and feature ideas — I'll be active in there myself, along with the Steam forums. Regular devlog updates will keep everyone across what's being worked on and what's landing next.”

About this Game

FIGHT THROUGH WAVES OF VEGGIES

Apple Man Sam is a top-down survivors-like roguelite — where you fire the weapons and use your abilities to destroy an osbcene amount of enemies.

Play as Sam, an Apple who absolutely hates vegetables. Fight through waves of enemies, level up, unlock items, and grow absurdly strong.

Complete quests to unlock new loadouts. Push your run into endless mode and chase the leaderboard. Die horribly. Try again. This is a bullet heaven for people who want to actually pull the trigger.

WHAT YOU GET IN EARLY ACCESS:

• 3 stages, each with 4 waves — full run clocks in at ~20 minutes

• A proper final boss fight to close out the run

• Endless "rising tide" mode — the countdown extends as you earn it

• 3 unlockable loadouts, each changing how you play

• 100+ quests with varied objectives • Dozens of unlockable items and cosmetics

• Global leaderboards

• A macro-currency meta-progression that rewards every run

WHAT'S COMING IN THE FULL RELEASE:

• 4 total maps, each with a unique end boss

• 10 total loadouts • More items, more quests, more absurdly strong apple builds

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

This game uses generative AI in several components. As a solo/small developer, the project wouldn't be feasible without it, but my goal is to fund human-created replacements through the game's revenue after early acces release.

Artwork-
AI generates the base/reference character sprites, which I then paint over and animate by hand.
Item and tileset sprites follow the same treatment, some items may remain unedited in early access to be reviewed later.

Music - AI generated music with rights held by Bonehead Labs.

Capsule art - combination of AI generation and hand-work.
