Miksi Early Access?

LingoHUD is a real-time translation tool designed to work alongside games, videos, and applications. Early Access allows us to gather feedback from users with different hardware configurations, languages, and use cases. This helps us optimize performance for gaming scenarios and prioritize the features our community needs most.

Miten kauan Early Access -vaihe suunnilleen kestää?

We plan to remain in Early Access for approximately 3-6 months. The timeline depends on community feedback and the completion of our optimization roadmap.

Millä tavoin lopullinen versio tulee eroamaan Early Access -versiosta?

The full version will include: GPU acceleration (CUDA) for faster speech recognition, additional OCR engines, expanded language support, lower memory usage through model optimization, and community-requested features. Core functionality (screen OCR, real-time audio translation, subtitle overlay) is already fully functional.

Mikä on Early Access -version tila tällä hetkellä?

All core features are working: region and full-screen OCR with PaddleOCR and MangaOCR, real-time audio translation with Whisper, multiple translation engines (Google, DeepL, Gemini), text-to-speech, customizable hotkeys, and a radial quick menu. The application supports 12 UI languages. We plan to add offline translation (NLLB) in a future update. Current limitation: CPU-only mode (no GPU acceleration yet).

The price may increase slightly at full release to reflect added features and optimizations. Early Access supporters get the best price.

We actively collect feedback through our Discord server. Bug reports with log files are addressed within 24-48 hours. Feature requests are tracked and prioritized based on community votes. Major updates will be announced through Steam and Discord.

LingoHUD uses AI models to provide real-time translation and transcription features. These include:

(1) On-device speech recognition using OpenAI's Whisper model (runs locally)
(2) Offline neural translation using Helsinki University's OPUS-MT models
(3) Optical character recognition using RapidOCR and MangaOCR (local)
(4) Speech bubble detection in manga using YOLOv8 (local, ONNX inference)
(5) Language identification using Meta's FastText (local)

Optionally, users may enable online translation services (Google Translate, DeepL, Groq Cloud, Google Gemini) by providing their own API keys. When enabled, data is sent only to the respective service provider; the developer does not collect or transmit user data.

All AI processing is triggered by explicit user action (hotkey press). No content is generated in the background. AI outputs (translations, transcriptions, detected text) are probabilistic and may contain errors. The software is intended for casual assistive use in gaming, manga reading, and language learning, and is not suitable for legal, medical, or mission-critical applications.

Built-in safeguards include hallucination detection to filter common Whisper errors, smart filters to skip non-translatable content (URLs, FPS counters, timestamps), and noise gating to prevent false transcriptions from silence.
