What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Travelers is made by one developer. Early Access will let players experience the current exploration, combat and online co-op while I improve clarity, feel and stability from real feedback. I will describe what each released build actually contains.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The game will remain in Early Access until it reaches a complete and polished state.
Development time may vary depending on feedback and scope.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to have more locations and quests, and further work on combat, AI and the systems around exploration. Plans can change with development and feedback. Features that are still ideas are not part of the current Early Access offer.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Early Access has not launched. The public playtest and the planned Next Fest demo are separate from the eventual Early Access build. Exploration, combat, looting, trading and online co-op exist in development; the exact Early Access content will be listed after its release build is reviewed.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Pricing for Early Access and the full release has not been decided. If the price changes later, I will announce it clearly; buying Early Access does not depend on an unconfirmed discount or future feature promise.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I will use playtest feedback and Steam discussions to identify bugs, unclear goals, combat feel and co-op problems. Updates will distinguish changes that are playable from ideas still on the roadmap.”

About This Game

Find your own way

Beyond the forests and ruined castles stands the holy Wall, the border between humanity and the arcane realm. Travelers is a single-player action RPG with optional online co-op: follow your own path at your own pace, or share the adventure with friends. Search dungeons for treasure, take equipment from fallen enemies and sell your spoils to merchants.

Travelers is being built around a clear principle: every place you can see should be somewhere you can reach and explore. Inside its castles, every room can be entered unless a physical obstacle, such as a collapsed passage, blocks the way.

Reach higher ground, find a different approach or venture down into the depths. Your rope bow turns suitable anchor points into climbing routes, giving you new ways to explore the ruins.

Out in the open, slide down slopes as you travel across the borderlands.

Every fight leaves its mark

Bandits, undead, giant spiders and other sinister creatures roam the borderlands. Face them with blades, bows or firearms. Knock attackers off their feet, force them back with a kick or use a thrown object to create an opening.

Break through destructible armour and cut enemies apart with dynamic slicing. Wounds and damaged equipment make the force of your attacks visible on the opponent in front of you.

A wounded enemy may limp, crawl away or struggle back to their feet. Others lose their nerve and flee. Even after the clash of weapons fades, the battlefield bears the scars of what happened here.

An interactive world

Break apart your surroundings and set them ablaze. Cut through grass, split wooden doors and send loose objects tumbling. Experiment with fire, destructible objects and physics as you explore and fight.

Further vegetation interactions, such as cutting back bushes and igniting undergrowth, are planned.

A world with a life of its own

NPCs and monsters fight each other without your involvement. Step in or leave them to fight it out. While you explore, the inhabitants go about their lives, wandering, resting and sleeping.

Planned: Make the borderlands your own

The long-term vision is to let you decide how far your ambitions reach. Found your own guild, build and equip bases at locations of your choosing, and recruit NPCs to form your own band of mercenaries. Conquer castles and claim them for yourself, or hand them over to other guilds. Settle into a stronghold or keep roaming as an adventurer—the choice should be yours.

Guilds, free base building, NPC recruitment, mercenary troops and castle conquest with ownership transfers are planned features and are not yet playable.

Humanity’s last bastion

For centuries, the holy Wall has held the arcane realm at bay. Ancient stone and consecrated runes protect the kingdoms from what lies beyond. Now magic has gone mad. Strange voices carry on the wind, and corrupted creatures gather before the Wall. Something has awakened them. Something is calling them.

The kingdoms send outcasts, the condemned and second-born children with no inheritance to defend it. Others come willingly: mercenaries seeking glory, mages seeking answers, and adventurers chasing rumours of forgotten relics, arcane crystals and gold that has never seen the sun.

You are one of the travelers drawn to this border, where the world ends and madness begins.

If the Wall falls, everything falls with it.

Why I’m making Travelers

I’m Jan, the solo developer behind Travelers. I’ve always wanted a “Zelda for adults”: a darker adventure with a world I can lose myself in, a satisfying gameplay loop, and the freedom to experiment. A game I can enjoy on my own and share with friends in co-op.

That’s why Travelers is being built as a single-player adventure with optional co-op from the ground up. Both matter to me. Whether you set out alone or play together, I want to make each experience the best it can be.

For me, immersion lives in the small details, too. When arrows and bodies simply disappear, as though a fight never happened, it pulls me out of the world. I want surroundings that respond to you, where you can try things out and leave your mark.

Travelers is the game I kept waiting for but never got. So I started building it myself. I’ve already put years of work into it. This is my life’s project, growing with every update, and I still have so much I want to do. My hope is to keep working on Travelers for the rest of my life: bringing new ideas to life, improving what’s already there, and giving you reasons to return to its world. I’ll use every tool that helps me get there and give it everything I’ve got. My ambition is to make the best game in the world—the game I’ve always dreamed of playing.

The road ahead

Travelers is still in development and has not yet entered Early Access. More locations and quests are planned as development continues. The Early Access section explains the planned scope in more detail.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

ome inventory icons, the in-game orientation map, and a few images used for signs and notes were created with AI assistance. The world itself, level design, gameplay systems, buildings, ruins, enemy placement, and environments are manually built, edited, and refined. Every mesh is placed by hand, and the world layout does not use procedural generation.
