What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We want to build a community around Ball Bots and ensure our core gameplay loop feels fair, responsive, and incredibly fun. As an independent husband-and-wife studio, we know that getting direct player feedback is the best way to balance our poise-based combat and energy mechanics. Early Access allows us to perfect the physics and local multiplayer foundation while actively building out highly requested milestones like online functionality”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We anticipate Ball Bots will remain in Early Access for approximately 12 to 24 months. Because we are a small team committed to delivering a highly polished final product, this timeline gives us the flexibility to build out robust online systems and implement community-suggested features without compromising on quality.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of the game is planned to offer a significantly expanded multiplayer suite. Key roadmap additions include:
• Intelligent NPC Bots: Introducing fully programmed AI opponents with distinct behaviors, allowing solo players to practice their skills or groups to fill out empty slots.
• Interactive Tutorial: Adding a structured training mode to help beginners master the physics, blocking, and high-speed redirection mechanics.
• Bigger Battles: Scaling up the chaos by introducing larger match formats, expanding beyond 2v2 into intense 3v3 and 4v4 matches.
• Deep Customization: Cosmetic character personalization options, unlocking unique colors and functional parts that let you alter your bot's movesets and stats.
• Expanded Gameplay Mechanics: Introducing character perks or special abilities to further diversify playstyles.
• More Diverse Maps: Expanding the arena roster with completely new stages, each featuring its own unique thematic atmosphere and game-changing dynamic events.
• Dynamic Environmental Events: Implementing elements of randomization and arena hazards designed to level the playing field, ensuring matches remain unpredictable and fun for players of all skill levels.
• Quality of Life & Accessibility Improvements: Implementing community-requested QoL features, streamlined menu navigation, re-bindable controls, and accessibility options to ensure the game is comfortable and welcoming for everyone.
• Visual Polish: Continuous user interface (UI) overhauls and enhanced visual effects (VFX) for better readability during high-speed scuffles.

We aim to implement several of these core features—such as NPC bots, the interactive tutorial, and an initial iteration of online multiplayer—during our active development phase prior to our full release, ensuring the game continues to grow in value for our early supporters.
”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version features a fully playable, stable core gameplay loop optimized for local multiplayer (1v1 and 2v2 modes). Players have immediate access to our poise combat, stamina management systems, ball redirection mechanics, full local menu navigation, 3 static maps, and 1 dynamic map. For a detailed breakdown of all mechanics currently implemented, please refer to the 'About This Game' section above.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to slightly increase the price upon the 1.0 release, with the final adjustment depending on the amount of content and features added throughout development. This ensures our early supporters receive a lower entry price as a thank-you for helping us shape the game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community is central to the growth and balancing of Ball Bots. We actively run an official Discord server and closely monitor our Steam Community Hub comment sections to gather direct feedback on weapon balance, game mechanics, and bugs. Moving forward, we plan to host structured playtests to stress-test new maps and mechanics alongside live Q&A sessions where players can chat directly with us about the roadmap. Player feedback will directly shape our development priorities as we head toward our 1.0 release”

About This Game

Ball Bots is a frantic, physics-based multiplayer sports-brawler where losing your head is literally part of the game! Step into the arena, knock your opponent’s head off with brute force, or snatch it right off their shoulders when they are vulnerable. Just remember—you still have to throw it into their goal to score!

Whether you are looking to ruin friendships on the couch or dominate the arena with a teammate, Ball Bots blends tactical combat with chaotic sports action.

Key Features

  • Heads Will Roll: Bounce actually, and fast! Combat meets sports in a unique physics-driven loop. Punch and kick rival bots with combo attacks to pop their heads right off their shoulders. Race to grab the rogue head and score a point before your opponent can snap it back on! Punching or kicking the ball makes it reach incredible speeds and can be used to score as every attack can control the ball's direction.

  • Online & Local Multiplayer: Ruin friendships on the couch or battle across the globe. Thanks to a robust networking architecture, you can square off in local couch co-op or host online peer-to-peer listen servers to match wits with rival bots anywhere in the world.

  • Poise-Based Combat: Every single move carries weight. Use heavy kicks to overwhelm opponents' light punches or counter-attack with a fast punch after pulling off a successful block.

  • Energy Management: Keep a close eye on your energy bar. Every action costs stamina, and over-extending will leave you wide open to enemy attacks. If you run low, rush over to collect scattered Energy Boosts or retreat back to your own goal line to quickly get back on your feet!

  • Frantic Match Formats: Dive into more tactical 1v1 showdowns or jump into chaotic 2v2 team matches.

  • The 5-Minute Blitz: Every round is a 5-minute race against the clock. Formulate quick breakaways, play aggressive defense, or just focus on pure brawling—the team with the highest score when the buzzer sounds wins.

  • Dynamic Arenas: Battle across distinct static maps designed for tight, tactical skirmishes, or risk it all in a dynamic map featuring shifting hazards and changing layouts that force you to adapt on the fly.

  • Built for Couch Rivalries: Designed from the ground up to capture the peak energy of classic game nights. It takes seconds to jump from the main menu straight into ruining your friendships on the couch.
