Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan to remain in Early Access for a year. That could change depending on player feedback, but that is our goal.

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan for the full version of GrimHold to have additional content influenced by community feedback during the Early Access period. We plan to include additional battlemaps and biomes alongside additional mission types, Heroes, and quests. Players will also be able to explore additional events and interactions over the course of a campaign. And of course a larger number of varying enemies and Bosses.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The early Access version is fully playable. Featuring four playable immortal Heroes, several mixable Classtrees and talents, and different hand crafted battlemaps corresponding with each terrain type. Players can recruit and fully upgrade the units that fight alongside their Heroes. Additionally, they will be able to develop their lands and strategically upgrade terrains with different buildings that give them tactical benefits. The roguelite progression layer will be present and players can unlock powerful “Fates” to increase their chances of winning a campaign. ”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes! To thank you for your trust, we’re offering a discount to everyone who purchases the game in Early Access. Since you’re helping us shape and develop the game, it wouldn’t feel right to charge full price.
”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We want to involving the community in development and are active on our Discord and the Steam forums. We want to hear all suggestions, bug reports, and player feedback in order to make a better game.

About This Game

GrimHold is a turn-based roguelite tactics game inspired by European folklore. Develop your lands, train your soldiers, and strengthen your immortal heroes. Lead your forces into battle against overwhelming enemies in campaigns where every decision has lasting consequences.

The Emperor has conquered the world. His immortal armies have centuries of patience.

You have one fortress. A handful of heroes. And the stubborn, foolish, glorious refusal to die.

Every battle brings you one step closer to the Emperor.

Command anthropomorphic heroes inspired by European folklore, each with a unique playstyle. Choose your champion for every campaign! Rally your men with Flemish the Lion, outpace and electrify the enemy with Reus the White Hare, harass your foes with Reynaert the Fox, or stand tall with Mathair the Bear.

Develop the regions surrounding GrimHold to unlock new opportunities for your campaign. The buildings you construct shape the battlefields you'll fight on, making every decision affect future battles. Every campaign begins with a different realm layout, encouraging new approaches each run. 

  • Roguelite Progression: Lose the campaign, not your progress. Your immortal heroes retain their level between campaigns, and completing challenges unlocks permanent upgrades called Fates. 

  • Unique Heroes: Command immortal anthropomorphic heroes inspired by European folklore. Each hero offers a distinct playstyle. 

  • Hybrid Unit Builds: Cross-spec your units with two randomly assigned specialization trees. Choose abilities from either tree as your units level up to create unique tactical builds. In addition to their ability trees, units can also gain unique talents, enabling deeper specialization and powerful build synergies.

  • Permadeath: Your Aegis return after defeat, but your other units do not. Fallen soldiers are lost for the rest of the campaign. 

  • Overworld Flow: Advance across the realm one day at a time. Manage your army’s composition, prepare for daily assaults, develop your regions and make difficult decisions to gain advantages for the final defense.

  • Enemy Generals: The siege unfolds across three escalating phases, each ending with an enemy general. Each general strengthens the invading army with unique army-wide effects and battle tactics, forcing you to constantly adapt before facing the Emperor.
