About This Game

Take command of a medieval army, master unit positioning, and defeat your enemies turn by turn. Choose a commander to play, each with their own unique unit and abilities, then go to battle on a grid-based battlefield. Use the terrain to your advantage, place traps on the ground, and build the right units to counter your enemy. Win the battle by sieging down and capturing all enemy castles.

Game modes

  • Skirmish: Play against the computer.

  • Campaign: A linear story mode with levels.

  • Online Multiplayer: Play against another player online.

  • Local Multiplayer: Play against another player locally on the same computer, each taking turns. (Works with Steam Remote Play Together.)

Skirmish, Online Multiplayer and Local Multiplayer can all use the built-in maps, your own made ones, or those from the workshop.

Features

  • Tactical, grid-based combat with an emphasis on positioning, line of sight, and terrain.

  • Commanders and factions: Each faction has a unique unit. Each commander grants a passive bonus and a powerful active ability. Factions offer several leaders to choose from; pick the one that best fits your playstyle and dominate the battlefield!

  • Terrain: Use the environment to your advantage. Each tile modifies movement and vision and grants defensive bonuses to units on it. Hide in forests or climb mountains for increased vision and protection. Place traps like caltrops on tiles outside enemy vision to damage passing units, or place them in plain sight to deny and control choke points.

  • Unit counterplay: Build the right units to counter the enemy with a rock-paper-scissors mechanic: swords, spears, and cavalry. Then there are ranged units; keep them safe because they can be easily defeated. Finally, siege units are large moving structures that help bring down castles. You still need infantry to capture castles; siege units just make it faster. Each unit type has both a light and a heavy version.

  • Weather: Each turn, the weather may shift from sunny to rain or even snow. This impacts movement cost, visibility, and the defensive value of every tile. You will know one turn in advance whether the weather will change and what it will change to. Be ready to adapt!

  • Sieging and capturing buildings: To capture a village, walk into it with an infantry unit and perform the capture action. Castles, on the other hand, are tougher to capture. First, reduce the castle's HP to 0 by sieging it; then an infantry unit can walk in and capture it. If a unit belonging to the castle's owner stands on the castle tile, the castle heals 1 HP per turn until the castle's HP is full again. Siege units deal the most damage to castles.

Campaign

A sudden northern invasion turns the region into chaos, triggering a chain of conflict. A new rebel nation, created by a commander who betrayed his own king, now pushes to expand its borders. Meanwhile, in the south, an aging king who has waited decades for this opportunity seizes the moment to launch his own campaign. The region has entered an age of war. Command allied forces through a linear series of levels as the story unfolds. Can you restore peace and stability to the region?

Level Editor

Build your own maps with the level editor. Create a unique and strategic terrain, place buildings, roads, and maybe even pre-deployed units. Then publish it to the Steam Workshop or just keep it for yourself. You can play the maps in both singleplayer against the computer and in local and online multiplayer.
