What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“With Rising Star 2 on Steam, the game was continually improved regularly over the span of 2 years after release, and occasionally even to this day. I realized that the community feedback helped drive many of the great ideas that ultimately ended up in the game, but it didn't happen overnight. I'd like to take the same approach with Shady O'Grady's™ Overnight Sensation, except properly going through the "Early Access" channel this time.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“3-6 months”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“More collectibles, more game variations, more bosses, more random events, more achievements, possibly even additional map regions beyond the United States. Basically more of everything that's already there, to add variety to each playthrough.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“In development. A demo will be released before Next Fest in February 2026, and early access release shortly after that.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will remain the same during early access, though it may be put on sale from time to time as allowed by Steam.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We have an active Discord server, which is the best way to get involved in the community and provide feedback directly to the devs. Steam discussions are also a good way to get involved, though the devs visit it less often.
Player feedback is always taken into consideration, whether it's balance issues, feature ideas, or bug reports. Sometimes you may see your idea appear within days of suggestion it, other times ideas won't get implemented due to complexity or balance issues it may cause. I'm usually very good with explaining why I don't want to implement an idea.”

About This Game

ROCK 'N' ROLL!

This fast-paced roguelike deckbuilder is perfect for squeezing in some rockin' gaming when you need a fix but don't have tons of of hours to spend on Rising Star 2.

Gameplay focuses on playing gigs during a U.S. tour. To progress you must beat bosses in battle of the bands. Beat the final boss to achieve ultimate victory, but it won't be easy. Don't be discouraged if you fail - it's all part of the journey.

Features

  • Deck-building core gameplay.

  • Various card types, collectibles, and consumables to manipulate gigs on the fly and maximize your audience scores.

  • Beat venue bosses to progress to bigger venues and audiences.

  • Each game is randomized, creating a unique experience on each playthrough.

  • A huge variety of music across 18 sub-genres of rock & metal.

  • More attitude than a wild rock band on tour.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

In order to include hundreds of music clips that didn't exist before this game, AI was used in generating music used to represent the songs in the game.

Although the game's "songs" are largely generated randomly at runtime, what you HEAR to represent those songs was pre-generated during development.

Each sound clip was personally curated by the developers, converted into looping segments (a manual process), and tagged with any instruments that are highlighted in that particular clip. This allows the randomly generated game songs to find the most appropriate audio clip based on what instruments are highlighted.

For the best experience, hundreds of audio clips were required so that no clip was paired with more than one "song" within any given save game. Without AI music generation, this would not have been possible.

I would like to stress that the dev team at Gilligames are huge music fans, and musicians ourselves. It is not our intention to put musicians out of work by using AI to create music. It was simply a matter of solving the huge logistical requirement of hundreds of audio clips.
