What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Interacting with intelligent, conversation-capable characters with personality and emotion, able to manipulate any object in the environment and interact with each other - is novel and requires feedback. We hope our technology will enable new game, VR and metaverse experiences. We're looking forward to enhancing the immersive experience of Bot Colony _redux based on player feedback.

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect we'll require 12 months from the start of Early Access to address feedback from the community.
To open our game to more players, we plan to localize Bot Colony _redux to major language groups: Chinese, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Portuguese, French, German, Russian, Thai, Hindi.

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

  • We plan to ship Perla, a tool scaling up our language-driven animation technology from Intruder, to enable creative people to build cutscenes or their own games featuring intelligent characters - all without programming, using only English and point-and-click.
  • Depending on how the Humanity Test is received, we'll contemplate offering a Humanity Test Maker tool for user-generated content (user-designed Humanity Tests).
  • Content-wise, we’re looking forward to telling the whole story in the Bot Colony novel, adapted to modern times. We will only consider such a major project if it has the clear backing of the player community.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Take a look at the About This Game section below for all the details regarding our playable content!”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“TBA”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Implement a comment and problem reporting mechanism in the game's UI, establish a Discord channel, and utilize community feedback to enhance the game.”

About This Game

SEVENTEEN YEARS IN THE MAKING

The Bot Colony concept was unveiled at GDC in March 2009, and the game was released on Early Access in 2014,  ahead of its time; the tech just wasn’t ready for the vision we had. We never stopped chasing it. Now, in 2026, Bot Colony _Redux finally delivers on the dream: a futuristic sci-fi narrative you play using unrestricted speech, talking to nuanced characters who respond with intelligence, humour, and emotion. This game has something for fans of many genres, and gives players the freedom to shape the story with their own words - every playthrough is unique! This isn’t “press X to select an answer.” This is actual conversation with no limits on what you can say as you play.

We’ve integrated cutting-edge AI and voice tech (Azure, ChatGPT, Elevenlabs’ emotive speech) into North Side's state-of-the-art natural language (NLU) to bring you immersive interactions.

FREE TO START

Bot Colony_Redux is free to download and begin. Because every playthrough uses live cloud resources to generate unique AI responses, continuous play requires LEKS currency, available via standard Steam checkout.

Practice Speaking In 16 Languages!
We hope to see a global community forming around Bot Colony _Redux's multilingual gameplay. You can use your microphone (or type) to speak to a dynamic cast of intelligent robots in your preferred language, and they'll answer you in that language. It's an exhilarating experience to listen to or read in a new language, then say a few words or type in it - and see that you were understood!

THE JOB

You’ve just been hired by Nakagawa Corp, a huge Japanese robotics company, for an unusual gig: track down a spy who infiltrated their R&D facility on Agrihan Island. Every episode in Bot Colony _Redux is a chapter in the story arc, and each one has its own unique setting, characters, and gameplay to master.

THREE EPISODES. THREE VERY DIFFERENT EXPERIENCES

  • EPISODE I: INTRUDER

There's trouble brewing in this high-tech paradise: Top-secret prototypes have gone missing, and Nakagawa’s competitors would love to get their hands on them. Before you get hired to begin the search on Agrihan, the security chief puts you through two hiring tests: prove you're able to control a robot with your words, and that you know how to get to the robot's repressed video memories. If you succeed, your ticket to Agrihan is waiting for you.

  • EPISODE II: ARRIVAL

As soon as you land on Agrihan, you can feel something’s off. The robots running the airport have been patched with Update 237, which reprograms them to "Do As People Do”. As the bots become distracted by their new goal to emulate human behaviour, a crisis unfolds before your eyes. Your personal assistant Miki-05 will be on hand to help you navigate the twists and turns as you face anti-robot terrorism firsthand.

  • EPISODE III: RIOT

Fly a Hunter Bot to an oil rig where chaos has erupted. The robots staged a mutiny and the rig’s human staff bailed out! Emulating humans, the bots become political, splitting into opposing factions: communists, capitalists, and eco-defenders. To survive, you must resonate with their ideology. Later you’ll face the “Humanity Test” - a twist on Blade Runner’s Voigt-Kampff test. Here, you must prove your humanity to robots to make it out alive!

AN EXOTIC FUTURE WORLD AWAITS

We built Agrihan Island in Unreal Engine 5.5 for rich visuals, atmosphere, and detail you can get lost in, infused with an original soundtrack that adds to the island’s tense, futuristic vibe. During your adventure across Agrihan you'll meet dozens of unique robots, each one designed for a specific role, from domestic bots to hunters - with gestures, expressions, and voices that illustrate their new goal: to emulate people!

Replay It. Rewrite It.

Your Words Shape the Outcome.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

We’ve been working since 2009 (when the Bot Colony concept was unveiled at GDC) on a game where players can say ANYTHING to a character and be understood. Adding a Generative AI component to our proprietary dialogue technology enables us to make the dream come true.
