What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Crown & Conquest is a deeply systems-driven game — chain reactions, deck-building, and AI opponents all interact in ways whose rough edges only show once real players push on them. Early Access lets us tune the cascade balance, AI difficulty curve, card economy, and campaign pacing with direct feedback from the people actually playing, instead of guessing in a vacuum. The core game is fully playable today; we want your input to make it great before 1.0.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We're planning roughly 6 to 12 months in Early Access. That window covers adding online multiplayer, expanding the campaign and theme content, and a full balance and polish pass. We would rather extend it than ship 1.0 before the game is genuinely ready.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“ We plan to grow the Early Access build toward a fuller 1.0 that we intend to include:
- Online multiplayer (ranked and casual)
- More campaign content, plus additional AI opponents and bosses
- Additional theme packs
- Improved accessibility and controller / Steam Deck support
- A full balance, audio, and visual polish pass”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version is a complete, playable single-player game: the full chain-reaction board mechanic, deck-building and card play, the King and Queen royalty systems, a campaign against multiple AI opponents and boss encounters, a guided tutorial, local hotseat (pass-and-play), and multiple visual themes. It does not yet include online multiplayer, and some content and balance are still being refined.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. The Early Access price will be lower than the planned 1.0 price — early supporters get in at a discount as a thank-you for helping shape the game. We plan to raise the price as we add major features such as online multiplayer and approach the full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will gather feedback through the Steam Community Hub and discussions and use it to drive our priorities — balance tweaks, AI tuning, quality-of-life features, and which content to build next. Players who report bugs and share strategies directly influence the patch roadmap, and we will post regular development updates on what we are working on and why.”

About This Game

Chess pieces are bombs. The board grows. Cascades decide everything.

Crown & Conquest is a tactical deck-building territory game that fuses Reversi, chess, and chain reactions into something new. The board isn't fixed — it grows as you play. Drop a Disk and flip your opponent's pieces with the classic Reversi sandwich. But the real game is in the chess pieces: each one is a primed bomb. Flip a Knight, Rook, or Bishop and it fires its movement pattern, flipping everything in its path — which can flip more pieces, which fire again. One placement can unravel into a board-spanning cascade.

You don't gamble on it blind: hover any placement to see the full cascade before you commit. Plan three flips ahead, or bait your opponent into detonating their own wall.

Every turn you play from a hand drawn from your deck — Disks, chess bombs, and special cards like Shield and Convert. Manage your draw, read the board, and time your Queen's charge for an automatic strike. Anchor your territory with the King — the one piece that can never be flipped or destroyed (well... almost — a Knight will leap right over its wall).

Take it through an 18-match campaign against 8 named AI opponents, each with their own personality and play style, building to 4 multi-phase boss encounters. Swap the whole look with data-driven theme packs. Then watch the Border Decay endgame close in and force the killing blow.

Features

  • Chain-reaction board game — chess pieces detonate cascades across a dynamically growing Reversi board.

  • See it before you play it — full chain prediction on hover; no blind moves.

  • Deck-building — draw, manage a hand, and wield 10 card types including Disk, chess bombs, Shield, and Convert.

  • King wall & Queen clock — a permanent unflippable anchor and a charging auto-strike to build your strategy around.

  • 18-match campaign — 8 distinct AI rivals plus 4 multi-phase boss encounters.

  • Theme packs — swap the entire visual identity; built data-first for variety.

  • Local hotseat — pass-and-play against a friend.
