Rob the graves of the rich after curfew. Dig with your friends, which is loud, in a cemetery that listens... It's 1947 and the plague never ended. There's room in the van for four. Keep your voices down. The watchman can hear you, and not every grave is as quiet as it looks.

About This Game

The night
1947. The plague never ended. After the curfew bell, only the Sanitary Corps may walk among the dead.

You were Corps once. They let you go. You kept the mask.

Now you go back after dark with up to three friends, a shovel each and an old army ambulance. The rich went into the ground wearing their jewellery. It seems a shame to leave it there.

Five places to get caught

St. Brannoc's, a country churchyard where the crickets fall quiet around you.

Holloway Necropolis, where the port buried its money behind iron and bronze.

Three crewmates in beaked masks walk through a dark stone passage towards the lamplit avenues of Holloway Necropolis, an iron gate standing open beside them.

Gallows Hill, where a searchlight still sweeps the war graves. Nobody told it the war was over.

Quarantine Island, where the tide comes back for the low ground.

In blue sea fog on Quarantine Island, the crew walk a lamplit path along a fence, past rows of grave markers towards the island's buildings.

The Undercroft, a catacomb under a burnt chapel, where the dead still keep their seats.

Digging is loud
Every stroke of the shovel carries further than you'd like. Then the blade finds the lid. THUD. Everyone stops.

The Night Warden
The watchman hears footsteps, voices and shovels. He can see a lit head lamp from across the yard. And he keeps a cage for people like you.

The Night Warden stands in the lychgate at night, a wide-brimmed hat on his head, his lantern throwing a white beam through the fog.

Something underneath
St. Brannoc's used to be the quiet one. Whatever lies under it has been waiting for a shovel.

The dead listen
Not every grave is quiet, and nothing on the stone says which. You find out by digging.

The rich never wanted to be dug up, either. Some of them made arrangements.

By a wire-topped wall on a hilltop at night, a trip flare burns white in the grass while three crewmates with shovels crouch away from its glare.

The undertaker's list
Someone always writes down who went into the ground, and what went in with them. Read the list. Find the stone. Hope the moss has left you the name.

A stained, handwritten list from J. Mortlake & Sons, undertakers: interments at St. Brannoc's, with each name, age, trade and where they were laid, and notes such as "buried with Silver Crucifix".

The van is home
The van leaves at first light, with you or without you. The last crew left you their book of notes. It tells you what the dead do. It doesn't tell you which graves are theirs.

Inside the crew's van under a bare bulb, two crewmates in hoods walk towards the open back, past empty shelves and the kit rack.

Wishlist Grave Benders, and bring a shovel. Keep your voice down.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

You play grave robbers working at night. Ghosts appear suddenly and knock players down, and a watchman chases players and locks them in a cage. At one cemetery a creature climbs out of a grave: it can throw a player down, tie them up and drag them to the cage, and it seizes the watchman by the throat and feeds on him until he crumbles to ash, with no blood or wounds shown. Opened graves have worms, beetles and flies in them. Shrouded bodies, bones and skulls are shown without gore, and some valuables are plainly taken from the dead, such as gold teeth. The creature's rags are stained, but no blood is spilt, and players cannot die. Alarm guns on tripwires fire blanks, a sentry carries a rifle he never fires, and a flare pistol is fired to light the ground. In the hub, players can knock each other over with a thrown axe, and nobody is hurt. Hip flasks, cigarette cases and a snuffbox turn up as loot, but nobody drinks or smokes. The setting deals with plague, war graves and executed felons. Online play has proximity voice chat that we don't moderate, and players' names can show above their heads.
