What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“This game has been near and dear to me for nearly 7 years. Even though it's full of typos and doesn't indicate when it ends, it’s a project I’ve always enjoyed revisiting, imagining its potential future.

Since its initial game jam release, it has received amazing feedback. Two years later, it gained even more recognition, winning another game jam and being showcased at the Anaheim Convention Center. Despite these successes, our plans to expand the game were always put on hold.

From the very beginning, we knew this game had the potential to be something bigger. A full release has always been the dream, but life often got in the way. Recent events, however, have inspired us to share its story again and raise awareness at just the right time.

By releasing the original, unpolished version on Steam, we hope to connect with a wider audience. With your support, we’d love to revisit this project and develop it into the vision it has always had the potential to become.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We do not have a fixed timeline. Our rough estimate is two to three years, and that depends on how much time we can put into the rebuild and how the game is received. We would rather take the time to do this properly than commit to a date we cannot keep.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version is the original game jam build from 2018. It was made in a few days and it shows the idea more than the finished thing.

For the full version we plan to rebuild the game rather than patch it. What we are working toward:

New art. We plan to replace the jam visuals with a consistent art style across the office, the claim files and the characters.

A longer campaign. We plan to extend the story past the current four days and give Charley a longer run at the job.

More claims and more applicants, including cases that come back later depending on how you ruled the first time.

More to do at the desk than approve and deny. We are looking at small tasks and mini games to break up the reading.

More story to uncover, including more about the company and the people running it.

An endings menu, so you can see how many endings exist and which ones you have found.

A proper ending screen and a pass over the typos.

These are our plans and not promises. Some of them may change, and some may not make it in at all.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Playable start to finish. This is the original game jam build.

What is in it right now:

Four in-game days as Charley Hills, a new claims examiner at a health insurance company.

A queue of claims to approve or deny each day, each one an applicant with a condition, a treatment and a cost.

A department budget you have to watch while you rule.

An in-game email system that tells you what your decisions did.

Multiple endings, depending on how you ruled.

What to expect: it is short, it was written in a few days, and it is rough. There are typos. There is no clear signal when the game is over. We would rather tell you that now than have you find out.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Insurance Inc. is free during Early Access and we plan to keep this version free. If we build the larger version we have in mind, we would expect to release it as its own separate product rather than change the price of this one.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Feedback from players is the reason this game is getting rebuilt at all, so we want as much of it as we can get.

How we plan to work with you:

The Steam Community Hub and the discussion boards are where we will be reading and replying. Tell us what confused you, what did not work, and what you wanted more of.

Claim ideas. If you have a case you think belongs on Charley's desk, post it. Player written claims are exactly the kind of thing we would like to put in the game.

Endings and story. We want to know which endings people found, which ones they missed, and what they think is going on inside the company. That will shape how much more lore we add.

Bugs and typos. The jam build has plenty of both. Point them out and we will keep a running list.

We plan to post updates through Steam announcements so everything stays in one place.”
