About This Game

A FULLY BLIND-ACCESSIBLE AUDIO ADVENTURE

Gunnar Malakor is no hero.

He's a thief, a failed mercenary, a mediocre gambler and a man with a rare talent for getting into trouble... and for trying to get back out.

After trying to steal an elven relic - with results far worse than expected - Gunnar ends up chained in the dungeons of Lysanthir castle, awaiting execution.

The trouble is, escaping the castle is only the beginning.

Gunnar will have to cross the roughest quarters of Lysanthir, scrape together food and money, gather equipment, clean himself up, find a convincing disguise and slip past the harbor checks to stow away to Drakongard.

And, ideally, without dying.

AN AUDIO-DRIVEN ADVENTURE

Gunnar Malakor is an audio game designed to be fully accessible to blind players.

The environment, characters, items, actions and events are all described and conveyed through narration, dialogue and sound effects.

You don't need to see the screen to play.

The game uses a structure inspired by classic point-and-click adventures, reworked into a text interface that is fully navigable through accessible controls.

HOW TO PLAY

Explore each location by finding its active areas: characters, items, doors, scenery elements and points of interest.

You can select them:

  • using the keyboard arrows

  • or by moving the mouse

When you reach the area you want, press ENTER or the mouse button to select it.

The game then shows the available actions for that area.

Pick the action you want with the arrows and confirm with ENTER.

Examine the environment, talk to characters, pick up items, use what you find, solve puzzles and gradually uncover the information you need to move on.

USE YOUR WITS, NOT JUST BRUTE FORCE

Gunnar has an inventory that fills up as the adventure goes on.

Items can be:

  • picked up

  • examined

  • used

  • equipped

  • combined together

  • used on the various areas of a location

A simple spoon can become the tool that opens an escape route. A cloak can help you go unnoticed. A stolen trade letter can become part of a disguise.

It's up to you to work out how and when to use what you find.

SURVIVING LYSANTHIR

Escaping isn't just about finding the way out.

Gunnar will have to:

  • find food to recover energy

  • get money

  • buy or scavenge equipment

  • find healing potions

  • find disguises

  • obtain (or forge) documents

  • keep up a decent level of hygiene

  • avoid or face various fights

You can get what you need through exploration, dialogue, theft, trade and creative solutions.

PUZZLES, DIALOGUE AND COMBAT

The adventure blends environmental exploration, puzzles, dialogue and combat.

You'll need to watch - or rather, listen - carefully to your surroundings to figure out which elements can be used, and in what order.

Combat introduces a simple system based on attack, parry and flee, with equipment and consumables that can make the difference in the toughest encounters.

TWO DIFFICULTY MODES

Choose between:

EASY - to focus more on exploration, story and puzzle-solving.

HARD - for a tougher experience, with more choice over the actions you take and closer attention to resources, combat and the conditions you must meet to progress.

PART 1 - ABOUT 5 HOURS OF ADVENTURE

The first part of the adventure lasts about 5 hours and spans two great moments:

ACT 1 — THE ESCAPE
Break out of the castle dungeons, cross the old sewers and win your freedom.

ACT 2 — THE ELVEN CITY
Survive the poorest quarters of Lysanthir, prepare your getaway and find a way to stow away on a merchant ship.

In the end, Gunnar will finally manage to leave Lysanthir.

But the ship is bound for Drakongard.

And, given his luck, that's probably not good news.

PART 2 - ABOUT 10 HOURS OF ADVENTURE

The second part of the adventure lasts about 10 hours.

What happens next? You'll have to find out!

A new adventure is about to begin.
