About This Game

A First-Person Love Letter to Steampunk Fantasy Roleplaying.

Inspired by Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura and Dishonored®, Gearspark immerses you into an industrial revolution in a world of magick. Uncover conspiracies against the Rahldbanon Empire, wield 1800s-era guns, steampunk technology, swords and sorcery in your expeditions into uncharted lands, to quell rebellion, or to inspire it.

Uncover a shadowy conspiracy against Grand Artificer Rahldbanon that could plunge Naerus into civil war. Take the side of the booming, industrial Empire or the magickal kingdoms that still cling to tradition. Wield blades, spells, gadgets or guns.

Fight to save the Empire...or to tear it down, brick by brick.

Spells and Machines Collide in the Resonance System.

Gearspark introduces a compelling new metric called Resonance that is affected by every enemy, location and item in the game.

  • Spells, mages and magickal monsters emanate “Magickal Resonance.”

  • While machines, trains, guns and engineers emanate “Technological Resonance.”

  • These are measured in the Resonance Meter at the bottom of the screen.

When these two Resonances collide, guns will start to misfire, and spells may fizzle. With extreme amounts of magick and technology at conflict, a Resonance Flux will occur, which can result in deadly effects, warped physics, and may even tear holes in the fabric of reality.

Watch your Resonance Meter carefully to detect hidden caches of magick items, or a secret mechanical door. Or tilt odds to your favor with magick-infused runestones or mechanical wonders that emit their own Resonance field.

Craft and Wield Muskets, Victorian Guns and Experimental Weaponry.

Technologists can wield vintage firearms like flintlock rifles, break-action pistols and blunderbusses, or they can experiment with the wonders of “electricity” and advanced explosive weaponry, such as rocket launchers, rail guns and other curiosities. Gunsmiths can craft guns and ammunition from their key ingredients, too.

Inventors can marvel at their Experimental Weaponry, and bask in their power. In their prototype phase, they are prone to failure. But with each iteration (Mark I, Mark II, etc.), Experimental Weapons will become more reliable. And with the Research & Discovery discipline, you can master this process even faster.

Electrocute foes with the Arc Lance (particularly effective against knights in conductive breastplates!), spew lead with the Gatling Gun, and penetrate the thickest of armor with the Electromagnetic Culverin.

Bend Physics and Gravity. See the Future. Defy Fate.

Sorcerers alter the laws of physics to make the impossible possible. Using complex somatic motions, conviction and intense mental concentration, a Sorcerer can adjust the freezing point of a particular area, concentrate light (as if through an unseen prism) to make a deadly beam of energy, or crystallize the atomic structure of the particles in the air to make a nearly impenetrable barrier.

The most exclusive schools of magick can even wield the power of the cosmos. Astromancy can bend gravity, call comets and solar flares down upon their enemies, and even conjure micro-singularities, sucking enemies into its core.

Clairvoyants can sense the contents of rooms beyond their sight, and Cartomancers are masters of the tarot card, and can shuffle and utilize their tarot cards as they see fit, to improve their fortune. Collect and purchase new tarot cards to perfect your Cartomancy deck.

Stay R.I.V.E.T.E.D. To the Story Through Choices and Consequences.

Craft your character and improve their Attributes over time through workouts, study and other activities.

  • Reflexes improve dodge and movement speed.

  • Intellect amplifies your magickal and technical abilities.

  • Vigor enhances melee combat effectiveness.

  • Eloquence makes persuasion easier, whether in conversation or at the marketplace.

  • Toughness lets you withstand more damage.

  • Eyesight is key to aiming and firing guns and other ranged weapons.

  • Destiny improves luck, your odds when gambling, and loot drops.

The way you build your character affects every decision you make. Convince characters to see things your way through Oratory & Rhetoric. Gather rare and valuable materials such as coal, gold and saltpeter to sell at a high price using Economics. Forge your own musket balls to keep enemies at bay. Or Gamble your way to wealth (or poverty) through cards and games of chance at the casino.

Explore a Unique Blend of Handcrafted Story and Randomized Locales.

Expeditions are randomly generated from a complex algorithm of carefully curated map pieces, loot tables, monster types, unique missions and variables.

Story-focused quests are tailored into each Expedition, creating an unpredictable and replayable experience every time you play.

  • Quell a riot in the city streets.

  • Track down a vicious serial killer before he strikes again.

  • Mediate a dispute between coal mining companies to restore full production.

  • Fight off bandits pillaging a helpless town during a plague.

  • Or hunt for a legendary monster who has been feasting on merchants.
