What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We are launching ChessFinity in Early Access to involve players early in our development process. This will allow us to gather feedback on game mechanics, balance, and features, and refine the experience based on community input. Early Access gives us the opportunity to develop a richer, more engaging game with direct player involvement, especially as we work on features like AI improvements, additional chess modes and a solo campaign”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We anticipate that ChessFinity will be in Early Access for approximately 12 to 18 months. This timeframe allows us to implement core features, polish existing mechanics, and expand on planned content like the single-player campaign, advanced AI, and additional multiplayer modes. However, we’ll be flexible with this schedule based on player feedback and development progress.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Chessfinity as in its early access will aim to still be evolving when it has fully launched. There are no shortages of avenues to explore in terms of its direction. We want to give the players more power to ; customize, create their own content , pieces, game meta and more. Our goal is to create a polished, feature-rich experience with various chess variants and multiplayer options that can be built upon by the players to create a gestault and bespoke experience via cross mode content. The feedback from the player community will drive the end result.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version of ChessFinity includes core multiplayer gameplay with support for 3+ players, customizable board dimensions, modded game modes and the Mana Chess mode. Postal games are functional for standard and modded chess. Players can play solo mode vs themselves / AI or online. They can experiment with board sizes, custom pieces ,different chess rules and modes. However, AI is currently basic, and there is no single-player campaign yet. We’re actively working on refining these features.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to increase the price when ChessFinity leaves Early Access. The Early Access price reflects the game’s current state and will reward early adopters who support development. As we add more content and polish, we believe the game’s value will increase, and the final version will be priced accordingly.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Player feedback will be essential to our development process. We’ll use Steam forums, Discord, and in-game feedback tools to gather suggestions and ideas. We encourage players to share their thoughts on balance, new features, and content updates. We’ll provide regular development updates and polls to prioritize features based on community interest. Our goal is to make ChessFinity a community-driven project where players feel directly involved in shaping the final product.”

About This Game

ChessFinity

ChessFinity is a collection of chess variants built for 3D boards and experimental rulesets — from classic 3D chess to weird new layouts, strange pieces, and mini-games.

Pick a preset and play immediately, or dive into Mana Chess, a deckbuilding mode where your pieces come from a deck and you spend mana to deploy them.

  • Mana Chess deckbuilding (pieces as cards + mana to deploy)

  • 3D chess variants on unusual boards (including classic variants)

  • Strange new pieces and wild matchups

  • Mini-games: puzzles + routing/touring challenges + chaotic FFA modes

  • Play solo vs AI, hot-seat, and multiplayer (still improving)

Mana Chess: deckbuilding meets chess

In Mana Chess, you don’t start with a fixed army — you build a deck of pieces and deploy them using mana. It creates a very different type of chess: more tactical surprises, more comeback potential, and a lot more variety between games.

Mana highlights:

  • Choose from mana presets (single level or multiple levels, with or without walls)

  • Build a deck that includes powerful new pieces

  • Place pieces by spending mana and play with configurable limits (including moves per turn — up to 3 in Mana)

  • Set king placement and deployment zones for custom Mana scenarios

3D chess variants & weird boards

ChessFinity includes curated 3D presets and variants — some well-known, some deliberately strange.

Examples you’ll find inside:

  • Classic 3D variants like Raumschach

  • New variants and experimental boards (small boards, long boards, boards with holes, “bridge” layouts, walled layouts)

  • Scenario-style rulesets (for example: king with only pawns, king with only bishops, asymmetric matchups like dragon vs knights)

Strange new pieces

Beyond standard chess pieces, ChessFinity includes new piece types designed to work with multi-level boards and variant rulesets — creating threats and tactics you won’t see in normal chess.

Mini-games & challenges

Want something faster, weirder, or more puzzle-like than a full match?

  • 3D chess puzzles

  • Routing & touring challenges

  • Chaotic FFA modes — including rule sets where the board can “rot” (disappear) as players move

Play modes (and a quick note on multiplayer)

  • Solo vs yourself or AI

  • 3+ players options (including team formats like 2v2)

  • Online multiplayer is available, but it’s still being improved — if you want the smoothest experience right now, solo vs AI / hot-seat is the best starting point.

Custom games (limited, single-player focused)

ChessFinity includes custom setup tools, with limits (and currently focused on solo play).

What you can customise:

  • Board shape & size

  • Choose mode: Modded Chess or Mana Chess

  • Piece placement for Modded Chess

  • King placement + deployment zones for Mana Chess

  • Number of players

  • Time limit per turn

  • Move limits per turn (Mana: up to 3)

  • Deck building (Mana only)

UI & quality-of-life tools

  • Tutorials for Mana, 3D chess, and basic board control

  • Move log + match replay

  • Check piece movement patterns and threatened positions

  • Switch between 2D and 3D views

  • Board coordinates

  • Adjust spacing between levels for better visibility on tall boards
