What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“To this point, That Which Remains has been a labour of love for three people working primarily in our spare time. The overall level of interest in Early Access will directly determine the game's scope and vision moving forward. We have the core game loop working well and have had successful limited playtesting within our community, but we are ready for more public input to help us expand our production capabilities. We want to move faster, tell the story we want to tell, and even adjust course if the community's input merits it.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Until the main story is complete. Early Access will hopefully allow us to prioritize quality over any other consideration. If things go as planned, we expect to be in early access for roughly a full year. But we reserve the right to keep it in Early Access longer if we decide to increase the scope and feature set based on player demand.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Our sandbox approach to the ghost-hunting genre has immense potential. To that end, we have many plans for our time in early access, including developing the overarching story, new “contamination zones” (from different locations and times through history), new equipment/tools, new entity types, new and improved upgrade systems (both chosen and automatic), real-time survival elements, beefed up contextual sound/art design, player character customization, much-much-much more voice acting (Entitech and story-related characters, as well as each excursion map includes a unique parasite personality and numerous victims to speak with using our V.O.I.C.E. technology)... all informed by detailed player monitoring and as much community feedback as possible.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current build includes the fully working game loop (investigate, identify and capture entities) playable by 1-4 players online using local voice chat, thirteen entity types with distinct behaviours, eighteen investigation tools, a weather changing day/night cycle (doubling as a difficulty modifier), a daily quota system, base upgrades, a recycling/crafting system, a functional version of the base environment, four non-contextualized excursion maps ranging from a small house to a sprawling arctic prison + one partially contextualized rural house map to serve as a blueprint. Notably missing: much of the story/narrative elements, contextual art design, and voice acting.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“As we expand the game with content updates and eventually offer a full release, the price may be revised. Players will always receive advance notice before any pricing changes take effect, but it is safe to say that the current price is the lowest it will ever be.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to work closely with the community throughout Early Access via Steam and our Discord server. Player feedback on story dev, balancing, entity behaviour, map design, and progression systems will directly shape future updates. As the narrative is rolled out and locations and entity types are introduced, we’ll rely on community testing, bug reports, and feature suggestions to refine the experience and ensure each excursion feels tense, fair, and rewarding.”

About This Game

UTOPIA'S HARVEST

1–4 player sci-fi ghost-hunting horror extraction sim with proximity voice chat.

~2250 C.E. We have conquered the human condition, eliminating war, scarcity, and even death itself.

Fusion was a lie. Utopia runs on “Enticine”—liquefied trauma—harvested from an invasive species we call “Neurospatial Parasitic Entities.” Ghosts, to you. Malicious beings born from extreme human trauma, they weaponize the dead and prey on your sanity.

But you can’t harvest trauma from a world that no longer suffers. That’s where you come in. A Relic. Stolen from a long dead age of suffering and conscripted by Entitech for one purpose: survive for as many days as possible while extracting Enticine from across time and space.

Unfortunately for you, failure and death are only the beginning of your nightmare.

HUNT

  •  Explore contamination zones, still haunted by the trauma that made them, and uncover their stories.

  • Search for signs of neurospatial parasitic entities: EMF signals, anomalous temperature drops or spikes, voices over the spirit box, ghost orbs only visible through a camera lens, telekinesis, illusions, and much more.

  • Use our V.O.I.C.E. technology to speak into the Spirit Box; say hundreds of different things and get replies from each excursion’s entity, along with its captured victims, all with unique personalities. Or even use the Spirit Box to speak with other Relics who have died.

  • Use the walkie-talkie to talk with the whole team, or local proximity chat for those near you. But beware, the entity is always listening.

  • Some entities resist your tools, possess you, slam doors, hurl objects, mess with the lights, shatter windows and furniture, wield fire and electricity, and manifest in horrifying ways, all to erode your sanity.

  • Weather and time of day set the difficulty and rewards.

IDENTIFY

  • I.D. the entity by mapping key signature evidence, or by taking notes on extensive secondary evidence and personality traits belonging to each entity type.

  • Twelve entity types, each with traits, moods and diverse reactions to Relic actions and words.  Record what you learn in the log, and before long you'll begin to recognize their personalities.

EXTRACT and MAKE QUOTA

  • Locate and extract trauma-laced materials

  • After identifying the manifested entity, use traps or the Capture tool to extract enticine directly from it.

  • At the end of the day, your Enticine Quota is due. Any surplus goes directly towards your base power. Do not let the base run out or discover what happens when you fail.

RETURN TO BASE

  • Sanity folds exhaustion, fear, and cognitive strain into one persistent number. Sleep in your cabin, drink coffee, play basketball or chess, and upgrade your base with the serenity chamber to recover this vital resource.

  • Use your rewarded Energy Credits to craft new tools for you and other Relics.

  • Spend Base Power to upgrade your base and unlock new equipment and personal upgrades each time you level up.

  • Your cabin and any unique decorations you give it travel with you from game to game.

OTHER FEATURES

  • One continuous world — no loading screens after launch

  • 12 fully realized entities with a vast array of abilities, personalities and difficulty, many more in the works…

  • Five contamination zones, ~18 tools (more planned)

  • Proximity voice chat with real per-room acoustics

  • 10 Base upgrades with many more in the works.

  • An experience/level system leading to equipment and personal upgrades

  • Full-body awareness — to other players, you look like what you're doing

  • 24-hour day/night cycle and dynamic weather

Entitech.

Powering progress.

Empowering life.
