About This Content

Warbonnet beauty! An American legend with perhaps the most famous face in railroading history, reminisce in the stainless-steel days and take on the challenge of mastering steep grades aboard the Train Sim World®: Santa Fe F7!

Built between 1949 and 1953, the F7 locomotive was introduced as the latest example of the F-unit design, going onto being the most successful of the type. Over 2300 F7A units were constructed, with an additional 1400 cabless F7B units for extra tractive effort on heavy trains.

Of the many original buyers, there is perhaps none more iconic than the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway – known commonly just as Santa Fe. Under Santa Fe-ownership, the fleet became famous for both passenger and freight operations, including the Super Chief, which it led across the states sporting the bold Red, Yellow and Silver accents of the Warbonnet livery.

Having long fallen out of favour for more modern motive power, as at a mere 1500 horsepower a piece, they’re certainly no match for the likes of the ES44C4, the F7 still manages to look state-of-the-art to this day and makes for a nostalgic sight for any railfan.

In Train Sim World 3, the Santa Fe F7 brings celebratory heritage action to Cajon Pass; from switching to summit conquering, haul manifest freight in warbonnet style and bring a taste of yesteryear to the railfans of California!
