What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“My decision to launch in Early Access is driven by a commitment to creating an RPG that not only meets but exceeds the expectations of my community. The initial concept of "Already in the dungeon, getting a few pieces of loot, and surviving a few monsters" is just the beginning. Our vision is for these dungeons to become one of many intricate core aspects of a much larger and more immersive experience.

Community-Driven Development: I believe in the power of player feedback to shape the game. Through Early Access, I aim to foster a collaborative environment where the community can suggest features, report issues, and provide insights that directly influence the development process.

Expanding Game Content: While the game currently features engaging dungeon exploration and combat, I plan to introduce new environments, quests, characters, and storylines. My goal is to enrich the game world, offering players a diverse and dynamic RPG experience.
Refinement and Optimization: Early Access provides me with the opportunity to refine gameplay mechanics, improve graphics and UI, and optimize performance based on real-world testing. This iterative process ensures that I can achieve the high-quality standards my players deserve.

I am dedicated to working on this game for at least the next two years, with a clear roadmap that outlines the introduction of new content, features, and improvements. I am committed to regular updates throughout the Early Access period, ensuring that players are always aware of my progress and future plans.

My commitment to my players doesn't end at the full release. I plan to continue supporting the game with updates, additional content, and community engagement to ensure that it remains vibrant and enjoyable for years to come.

By choosing Early Access, I am inviting players to join us on this journey, offering them the chance to be part of the game's evolution from its early stages to a fully realized RPG thriller-adventure.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“18 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Going from Early Access to the full game, I would like to make many changes and improvements, such as:
-Adding dozens of rooms to the base dungeon, and adding several more dungeon types into the overworld.
-Fleshing out and increasing the scope of the overworld into an open world of its own.
-Adding rewarding questlines for different items and skills.
-Creation of the skill trees for customizable gameplay.
-Improve multiplayer, and the invasion PVP system.
-Free-For-All extraction mode
-Ever-increasing complexity of the combat system”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The CURRENT version is an empty dungeon walking simulator. It does not have any features other than basic movement.

The following are the features that WILL BE operational on the RELEASE of Early Access release:

-Dungeon generation and escape/down portal
-Core inventory, armor, weapon, and cosmetic equipment
-Core combat (Attacks, short combos, rolls, and parries)
-Sellable loot and a player home/chest that permanently stores items for safekeeping.
-Core multiplayer functionality”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“My journey through Early Access is not just about developing the game with community feedback but also about being transparent and fair with my pricing strategy. As the game progresses through Early Access, with significant additions in content, enhancements in features, and overall improvements, I anticipate adjusting the pricing to reflect the added value.

I aim to reward early supporters with a lower price point as a token of appreciation for their trust and feedback, which are invaluable to me. This initial price is intended to provide access to the game in its current state and support its development.

Upon the completion of Early Access, when the game is fully developed and enriched with all planned content and features, I foresee a slight increase in price. This adjustment will reflect the game's evolution from its early version to the full, polished experience. I'm considering a carefully measured price change that acknowledges the game's growth while maintaining fairness to my player base.

I commit to clear and early communication about any planned changes in pricing well ahead of time. This approach ensures that my community is informed and can make purchasing decisions that best suit their interests.

To summarize, my pricing strategy is designed to be respectful and appreciative of my early supporters while aligning the game's price with its value and the investment made into its development. I'm leaning towards a gradual price increase as I ship new content and features, ensuring that early supporters benefit from their early investment in my game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Constant community polls for content, streaming progress, and dev logs.”

Like countless misguided souls before you, you've accepted The Council's offer, and have been spirited away to the lands of Kadath - a forsaken Realm that borders reality and what lies beyond.

But you do not walk this path alone. If you develop your alliances and relationships with the myriad of humanoid and Sprite races spread across the Overworld and Underworld, they may be willing to aid you on your journey. You too can choose to aid other parties... or invade their worlds, and take what they've earned.

Some seek riches, others, long-lost arcane secrets, and for a few, heroic glory in the name of mankind. Whatever it is that you seek - if you want to stay alive and join the legendary group that is The Cosmic Slayers, always remember to Beware the Depths.

Get in - to the randomized Dungeons. Each one is familiar, but never the same. When you first enter you will have 24 hours (1 hour in real-time) to escape. To overstay your already hostile welcome is to invite certain death.

Get loot - if you can reach it.

Get out - hopefully alive, using the escape portal.

Or, indulge in your greed, and dare to go deeper. Take the Cursed Portal and jump from the hostile Dungeon into a hellish place known as The Depths. The best loot lies here - but so do unspeakable Horrors, and an Avatar of the Elder Gods. The Entities in the Dungeon have varying levels of hostility, but here in The Depths, every living thing will try to kill you.

If you fail and 'perish' below, The Council will uphold its end of the contract, and protect its human resources - for a meager fee. You will be transported back to your home in the Overworld, but everything you took with you from the surface, along with every bit of loot you've gathered while in the Dungeon, will be claimed by The Council's treasury. But not all is lost. You return to the Overworld with your experience, and the knowledge you've gained, intact.

If and when you do make it out alive, you can sell your loot to buy new wares, improve your home and Ulthar Village, visit your humanoid friends, care for your rescued Sprites, and then prepare to delve again.

Pre-Alpha Equipment System. Even the Shadow Wizard from House Money-Gang is impressed!

Play as one of the Cosmic Slayers, or a character of your own creation, and venture into the belly of Kadath. Your goal is to grow stronger until you can defeat the Avatar that reigns over the Depths below, and stop its ever-spreading spores of corruption.

Team up with a party of players, or hire NPCs as allies, and bring them into the Dungeon with you. The greater the number of allies, the greater the strength and loot of foes you will face.

It's dangerous to go alone - take them!

There are many Entities in the Dungeon. Some are peaceful, others uninterested. Some are wiser to flee, and others better to fight. Not all members of any of the humanoid races are feral. Whether it be Goblins, Dragonkin, Cathar, or even Ghouls, if they don't attack you on sight - or give you a warning hiss, you may just be able to reason or barter with them. Unfortunately for this Goblin, he is completely deranged due to prolonged exposure to the Avatar's spores of corruption.

Pre-alpha 'Parry->Execution' perk test

The Overworld is restricted to a small section of west Kadath, between Ulthar and the Enchanted Wood where the Dungeon Entrance Portal lies. Although this region is usually safe during the day, it would be wise to not stray far from the town at night.

The lands surrounding Ulthar are mostly safe - mostly.

Not all is doom and gloom in Kadath. Safety can be found where you rest - your home. The default player home is a modest shack built in the Overworld. This is where you can accept quests from locals, sell your loot, and enter the Dungeon.

We all love loot, but what’s the point if there’s nowhere to store your riches? (and cats)

Sprites are small creatures - but don't underestimate their abilities. These adorable allies can be rescued from the Dungeon, where they would have otherwise been used as living sacrifices to empower the Avatars in the Depths. You can also take them into the dungeon to assist you - granting buffs that range from more inventory slots to higher movement speed.

Avoid giving them high-knockback crossbows

Early Access is coming later this year. Make sure to wishlist Beware the Depths and join the Discord above to keep up with new additions and changes!
