Why Early Access?

“ASV Soccer's vision is a big one: A fully customizable soccer game for up to 22 concurrent players. It aims to be a more arcade version of famous current AAA soccer games' multiplayer game modes, and wants to maximize fun and enjoyment of soccer games.

My long-term goal is to provide enjoyment for a wide audience: From casual Singleplayer league enjoyers, to Coop (Local and Online) gamers, to full clubs of human players for awesome 11 v 11 tourneys and variations of soccer rules with different game modes.

While I believe the current state of ASV Soccer is already quite fun, I want to build, shape and improve with the help of Early Access and a community in the following areas:

- Introduce new game mechanics, such as free-form dribbling and multiple variations of tackling, sliding and shooting.
- Get feedback on and Improve or change existing gameplay mechanics: ASV Soccer control scheme is very interactive. Instead of having a few buttons doing everything automagically you need to stay on point for performing the correct actions.
- Improve game balance
- Create AI opponents which make the game suitable for singleplayer
- Finding possible cheeses / exploits and adress those

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“ASV Soccer is a work of passion and a hobby, but not my full-time focus. The current version of ASV Soccer has been in development for roughly 2 years. It is my personal goal to release a 1.0 version of it within the next 2 - 3 years.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Possible features for a 1.0 version of ASV Soccer are as follows:
- Finalize core gameplay mechanics and balance improvements
- Configuration for many settings for very detailed gameplay customization
- Reconnection logic
- Skill and Leveling system for your own player character
- Randomly generated player skills to make each match unique
- Character creator for your own soccer player
- AI for singleplayer with support for multiple formations and realistic behaviour
- Randomly generated teams, leagues, and cups
- Gameplay assistance features for a more casual gameplay experience
- Dedicated Servers with Matchmaking
- Way more animations and dynamically adjusted animations for visual improvements
- Basic commentary in english
- More lobby and social features
- Better logging and metrics for better updates
- Local Co-op
- Optimizations all over the place”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“You can play a full soccer match with up to 11 v 11 multiplayer or in singleplayer. Singleplayer is currently experimental, as the AI will most likely not offer a huge challenge. I recommend at least 4 to 6 players. Most required soccer mechanics (passing, lob, shoot, headers, tackle, slide, goalkeeper) are implemented in an experimental version. The game is designed with fair play and Server Side validation in mind, so most forms of cheating should not be possible out of the box, but I will keep monitoring.

ASV Soccer currently offers player-hosted lobbies and server browser only (no dedicated servers / matchmaking yet).”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“ASV Soccer is a passion project and I do not care that much about the price. Should I achieve what I set out to do then a higher price seems fair. However this depends on many factors and will be evaluated along the way.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I will read feedback on the usual sites and places, but also plan to implement an option for leaving feedback in the game itself. Please make sure to join the ASV Soccer Discord for any ASV related topics.”
