About This Game

CHESS. POWERS. A PERSONAL DUEL.

Chess Duel brings you face to face with your opponent at a physical chess table. Choose Classic for familiar chess, or enter Chaos Mode, where hidden powers and stone points give every position another layer of decisions.

CHAOS MODE — CHOOSE YOUR EDGE

Pick two active powers, a special piece power and a passive before the match. Earn stone points through play, then decide when a power is worth the cost. Uses, cooldowns and counterplay matter: a strong ability needs the right moment.

• Powder Pawn: arm a pawn that explodes when captured, threatening its square and all eight surrounding squares. Unshielded pieces of either colour can be lost.
  
• Royal Recall: bring back a captured piece on a safe square. More valuable pieces cost more, and recalling one uses your move.
  
• Spymaster's Eye: reveal your rival's stone points and one chosen power for three full rounds. The other powers stay hidden.
  
• Shield and Dispel: protect a piece, strip away protection, and force your opponent to rethink an attack.

CHAOS COMBAT 2.0 — NOW IN THE STEAM TEST BUILD

What if the piece you were about to capture could fight back? Propose a duel on a legal capture. When accepted, descend from the chessboard into a medieval arena and control your armoured Paladin in third person. Manage stamina, choose your attack direction, block, dodge and use your piece class's ability.
Pawns, knights, bishops, rooks and queens have different combat profiles. Win as the attacker to complete the capture; win as the defender to keep both pieces in place and pass the turn. Then return to the same board and continue the match.
For two human players, eligible king positions can also open Royal Roulette: a separate, mutually accepted showdown with six chambers and one loaded round.
Chaos Combat is currently in private Steam testing. Duels support unranked human matches and offline AI/practice; ranked uses the board-and-powers rules without melee combat. AI Royal Roulette and tournament-bot combat are not enabled.

Invite a Steam friend, practise against 20 AI levels, or compete in separate Classic and Chaos ranked ladders with their own placement matches and MMR. Organise an 8-, 16- or 32-player friends cup and fill empty places with AI, or follow your own run through an AI tournament bracket.
Track your level, XP, results and playing habits in your profile, and pursue Steam achievements, including Chaos challenges.

TAKE YOUR SEAT AT THE TABLE

Animated hands move pieces across the board while captured pieces gather beside it. Stay in the seated first-person view for the atmosphere, or switch to Board Focus Mode to read the position. Clocks, last-move highlights and move history keep the match clear.
Prefer traditional chess? Classic includes castling, en passant, promotion, checkmate and draw rules, alongside time controls and rematches.
