What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Gather feedback on core game-play features (eg. camera movement, units controls, base building) to improve it before moving on to completing the game (eg. campaign and modding).”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan 2 to 3 years.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version focuses on fun, well playable, strategy game, while the Full Release version focuses on additional content and story campaign.

We plan several additional features for the final release of the game:
  • full story-based campaign with multiple endings.
  • modding/scripting support.
  • tools for player-authored maps and units.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Presently, the game is playable in multiplayer, or against primitive AI.

However, sounds and music are completely missing for now, and some game-play mechanics are still worked on.
We plan to finish that even before the Early Access becomes available to wide public.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to gradually raise the price as we ship new content and features.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Game design issues and feature requests can be discussed at our discord https://discord.gg/RjHFk3vQYG.

Technical issues can be submitted at https://github.com/unnatural-worlds/public-issue-tracker/issues.”

About This Game

Strategic game that challenges players to think beyond conventional maps and tactics.
In this game, you can play on the surface of any 3D shape, from a planet to a turtle, and everything in between, with multiple ambush points and surprising shortcuts.
Base building and smart placement of your structures is required to ensure rapid growth, while capturing and protecting crucial areas is essential for keeping the flow of rare materials.
Unnatural Worlds is a game that offers players a unique experience and challenges them to think outside the box.

Any-Shape 3D Maps

Play on the surface of any 3D shape, such as a planet, potato, horseshoe, or gear. Perhaps several islands floating in void connected with small bridges. Perhaps a stuck clockwork.
Most places can be ambushed from multiple directions.
Determining the strategic value of various positions on the map is a crucial skill to master the game.

Strategy Game, Not Action Game

UW focuses on thoughtful planning and strategic positioning. Players must capture additional resource deposits and simultaneously make the most of what they already have available. Also ensure the protection of your supply lines.
Unit micromanagement is minimized wherever possible. Units have no user-activated skills. Each unit has only one life, so there's no pulling back damaged ones. The destruction of units is probabilistic.

Resources In The World

UW has over a dozen types of resources: raw ores, processed materials, and intermediate goods.
All resources are on pallets or in boxes, existing directly in the world, and requiring transportation.
Trucks are controlled automatically.

Military Bonuses (Planned)

UW has no technology tree or research. Progression is achieved through acquiring or refining new resources.
A globally applied bonus is obtained by capturing, holding, and supplying goods to specific neutral buildings in the world.
Gaining higher experience than your opponent grants an additional bonus. Experience is earned by destroying enemy forces and is not tied to specific units.

Civilians (Planned)

New soldiers are recruited from cities. The larger the city population, the more recruits you obtain. However, civilians are picky and prefer to live in safer and better-supplied cities.
You must capture cities and provide them with food, and possibly some luxurious goods, to gain their favor and, consequently, more soldiers. Creating the most well-lived city becomes a competition with your opponents.
Killing civilians disfavors you in your own cities.

Virtual Reality (Planned)

The unique maps of Unnatural Worlds make the game a perfect fit for virtual reality, marking it as the first RTS game in VR.
You hold the world in one hand and issue commands to your units with the other hand.
Cross-play is possible.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Tanks shooting at each other, at buildings, and blowing things off.
