What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Gain community feedback on the design and mechanics of the 8 current playable characters, the rollback netcode of online gameplay, the custom online lobby system, and ideas for the currently unimplemented modes for Tutorials and Character Guides.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“2 to 4 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“More effects for sound, particle effects, and character voices. Currently, the offline versus and training modes are implemented but are in a very early state. Button configuration only works for the 1st player (out of the potential 4 players). These modes will be fully implemented with more options, as well as more characters, stages, and additional modes like Tutorials and Character Guides.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Online lobbies with GGPO rollback netcode with a leaderboard and lobby types for ranked, casual, or private with the support of inviting via Steam chat or friends list. Gameplay with 2v2 combat with 8 playable characters with 4 costume colors and 20 combo trials each. Each character has their own “Unique Movement” including 8-way airdashes, teleports, roll canceling, jump canceling, special stances, flight, etc. 6 stages with different lighting, environment, and other effects such as water. Controller support for gameplay, menu navigation, and button configuration on most controllers and arcade sticks for Xbox/PC as well as even the default PlayStation 4 or 5 controllers; also keyboard works.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to gradually raise the price as we ship new content and features.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Poll, surveys, and adhoc questions on Twitter and the community Discord server.”

About This Game

Gemion Function is a fast-paced fighting game that combines a hectic 4-player battle system along with the classic motion input control system of traditional 2D fighting games.

  • 4 characters each with their own special moves, combos, and character-specific "unique movement" actions that can be done on the floor or in the air. More characters to be added over time

  • 6 stages using 2.5D graphics with 3D models for characters and projectiles on a 2D fighting plane, powered by Unreal Engine. More stages will also be added over time

  • Team battle system supporting up to 4 players (1v1, 1v2, or 2v2)

  • Smooth online play with rollback netcode via integration with the "GGPO rollback network SDK"

  • Online lobby functionality with Steam API supporting actions such as:

    • Creating public and private lobbies

    • Sending and accepting invites from Steam chat

    • Searching for public lobbies

  • Resource management with a shared team super meter for universal actions such as EX Special Moves (aka enhanced moves) and Burst (aka combo breakers)

  • Classic control scheme with inputs for special moves for quarter-circles, half-circles, dragon punch, and more
