What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We want Plague Alchemist to reach players early so that community feedback can directly shape its development. The game’s systems are ambitious, and Early Access gives us the chance to refine mechanics, pacing, and content direction before committing fully to features that may not align with player expectations. Our goal is to ensure the final version reflects both our vision and what players genuinely enjoy.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“It’s difficult to predict precisely, but our current estimate is around 2–4 years. Plague Alchemist is a large, system-driven RPG, and we want to take the time to refine its mechanics, add content, and ensure stability before moving to a full release. We’ll continue development transparently, with regular updates and progress reports throughout the Early Access period.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“In the Early Access version we plan to include the core systems and mechanics of Plague Alchemist — alchemy, exploration, quests, and more — but in a limited scope. Our goal is to make all foundational features fully functional, though initially lighter in content. For the full release we plan to expand these systems substantially, adding new regions, dungeons, storylines, puzzles, and crafting depth to deliver a richer and more complete experience.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version is still in development. At launch, we plan to include the foundational gameplay systems — alchemy, exploration and progression — along with the first major region of the world, the first dungeon, and a selection of core crafting and quest content. It will represent a solid but incomplete experience focused on testing and refining the main gameplay loop.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. Plague Alchemist will be offered at a lower price during Early Access as a way to thank early supporters and justify the incomplete experience. We plan to increase the price over time, but only when the game is in a state to justify this. After Early Access ends, the game will be at the full price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback will play a central role throughout Early Access. We plan to involve players through active discussions on Discord, gathering input on balance, new features, and overall direction. Major updates will be influenced by community priorities, with changelogs and devlogs published regularly to show progress and the reasoning behind design decisions. Our goal is to make Plague Alchemist evolve transparently, shaped by the people actually playing it.”

About This Game

EARLY ACCESS CONTENT NOTE

This first Early Access build contains roughly 1 hour of playable content, depending on playstyle. It is small in story and world content, but focused on testing the core systems already built for the game, including exploration, alchemy, brewing, gathering, progression, quests, and world interaction.

Only a small part of the planned story and world is included at launch. The goal of this build is to gather feedback on whether these systems feel fun, clear, and worth expanding before larger content updates are added.

The game is planned to grow through free updates with additional dungeons, areas, quests, items, and story progression.

Plague Alchemist is a story-driven pixel art RPG about alchemy, corruption, and quiet survival.

You play an outcast doctor investigating a mysterious plague that leaves villagers trapped in unnatural sleep, following its trail to the world’s decaying leylines. There is no combat or death; the focus is discovery, progression, and understanding the world through alchemy.

EXPLORE A LIVING WORLD

Venture across forests, ruins, and corrupted lands that shift with time and weather.
Gather herbs, minerals, and rare components hidden throughout the open world — each discovery moving you closer to uncovering the secret of this plague.

MASTER THE ART OF ALCHEMY

Brew potions one piece at a time. Instead of simply selecting a finished formula, you study how ingredients behave, learn the rules behind alchemical reactions, and apply that knowledge yourself during brewing.

As you experiment, you can record discoveries in your laboratory notes, gradually refining your understanding of the process. These notes do not solve brewing automatically — they help you think, prepare, and make better decisions.

Alchemy in Plague Alchemist is meant to be active and deliberate: observe, reason, test, and brew with care.

SEAL THE LEYLINES

The full story is planned around seven elemental dungeons — Earth, Fire, Water, Air, Body, Mind, and Spirit — each concealing a fragment of the corruption spreading through the land.

Each dungeon is intended to introduce new biomes, alchemical materials, and environmental puzzles requiring preparation and keen senses.

A WORLD WORTH STUDYING

With painterly pixel art and atmospheric music, Plague Alchemist offers a slow-burn, methodical RPG for players who value exploration, discovery, and the quiet satisfaction of mastery.
