What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Snapshot Aquarium is my long-term hobby project. Early Access lets me develop in public and collect feedback/ideas. Updates will be irregular—usually in bursts, not weekly.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Indefinite. I’ll keep tinkering as long as it’s fun. It's fun since 2015!”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“More content, more creative options, better fish AI, and I have plenty of ideas for online community features.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Very playable and 300+ items to unlock! Please see the regular description for the feature list and roadmap.
Please try the free Demo! It is always updated along with every new patch.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I plan to gradually increase the price as I add more features.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I’m very grateful for your feedback—ideas, wishes, and anything that feels frustrating or broken. Please reach out on Discord, the Steam forums, or via the in-game “Give Feedback” button.”

About This Game

Snapshot Aquarium is an aquarium sim with skill-based photo challenges.

It's for people who love fish and aquascaping—but want something more engaging than just feeding (or selling) fish every day. It’s calm, but not idle: patience and timing matter.

  • Shoot with patience: the photo mechanics reward waiting for the right moment, clean focus, and species combos.

  • Build cozy habitats: keep your fish thriving and get a higher rank in the online gallery to draw more visitors.

  • Share & explore: publish your tank and visit creations from players around the world.

A long-term project

I've been tinkering on Snapshot Aquariumfor for over 10 years, and I’d love your support to keep adding features for many more. This is a calm, craft-at-your-pace project—built to grow with the community.

What’s in the game today

  • Advanced fish AI - Schooling, fleeing, feeding, chasing, growing in near-realtime, basic needs

  • Aquarium editing - Over 300 items included already

  • Arcade-style photo challenges - from easy (auto-aim, auto-focus), to expert

  • Online Community - Share your tank and visit others around the globe

  • Snapshot Gallery - Share your best shots online

Planned / wishlist features

  • More fish species, more plants, more decorations — more of everything

  • More creative options (aquascaping)

  • Community photo quests (find the fish!)

  • Achievements

… and your suggestions are welcome!

Love, peace and cheers,
Andy / Team Octoponx
