What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“1. Most importantly, MORE TUNES and a BETTER UNLOCK SYSTEM!
Having more tunes is always fun, and we definitely want more unlocked-by-default songs!
Also, we want to know how hard should the 'unlock system' be (further explanation in 'current state.') As it stands now, it may feel slow to you. We want to hear about it from you!

2. to get a reliable difficulty assessment.
A very small team does charting. This may have already caused our difficulty assessment quite biased. Nevertheless, we want it to be as correct as possible!

(Note about how we grade the difficulty:)
The stages in this game have two ratings based on their difficulties.
One of them is the Course. We have BASIC, NORMAL, HARD, and EXTREME. One tune will have at most one (1) of those (making a tune having four (4) stages maximum, there are tunes with some of the courses missing.) We're just comparing stages designated for the same tune, which is very easy.

The other is the Level. This is an integer ranging from 1 to 15. Bigger number = harder. The difference between the Course is the Level measure compares across all the stages in-game! (In other words, Course is a local difficulty within the tune while Level is a global difficulty in Twin Horizons.) This is significantly a hard measurement to handle. If you feel that the level is off, please tell us!

3. We're trying to find a balance between your game experience and the game visual.

We're looking at the 80's 'future'-ish art style while fusing some modern art style!
The visual in this game is kept relatively simple to allow for low-end PC to run it.
More visual candies may be great, but it is certainly no good when they lower the performance!
Your play experience will help us find the balance between the great game experience and the engaging visual!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The initial prospect had to be scrapped; adding songs was time-consuming than we anticipated.
Our set goal was to have 30 songs at least before the full release. This goal hasn't changed yet because we believe this is the number to add more ways to play this game without reusing the same song too much. This process may take more than a year.
Even after the early access period, we also plan to support the game further.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We're hoping for these to happen (the topmost one being most probable:)

  • Better difficulty assessment
  • Multiplayer
  • Chart Editor
  • Key configuration
  • VR support.

Also, the charts available in the early access stage are subject to changes for a number of reasons (for example, but not limited to) because they are found to be too off in the difficulty scale. When this happens, the saved high score for the old chart may be removed.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

Features implemented

  • "Half Lanes," 4-lane music game with mostly easier charts, great for starters.
  • "Full Lanes," 4x2-lane music game with rather harder charts, for those who want challenges.
  • Both modes come with interactive tutorials.
  • We currently have 14 songs available to play.
  • Risky Play Options, which add pressure to the gameplay.
  • Gameplay gives you XP and Creds, which are used to reveal new music and to unlock charts, respectively.
  • Player Rate, which is the measurement of your progress in the game

Unlock system

Half Lanes and Full Lanes mode doesn't need unlocking (and we're keeping it that way.)

To reveal all initial 10 songs, expect 1.5 ~ 3.5 hours of gameplay
(Player Level 30; speed depends on which difficulty to play - higher ones let you reveal them quicker.)

To unlock every chart of the same difficulty, we expect around 2 hours of gameplay each,
but you can speed it up by these things:
  • Using Risky Play Options (SPACE key in Music Selection) up to get up to 2x more creds
  • Performing Full Combo

Difficulty Ratings

The charts' difficulty is currently rated based on our feeling. If you find it off, let us know!”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

Yes, it will change! Based on the number of music included in the base game, we plan to bump the price at some points. But note that this won't happen too often; we expect the price raise to occur every a few tens of songs added.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“1. Help us with correctly assessing the difficulty!
Deciding all the Level ratings by one guy is not easy because it'll be easily biased. You players playing, clearing, or failing (FAILING IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT. If you dear players keep clearing everything, that means we have to go all out!!) the stage really helps to give us a better idea of how the level rating should be balanced.

2. Ideas for songs. What genre of music do you wish to play?
Do you need slow tunes or more full-fledged-go-cry-in-the-corner types of demonic songs? Any specific genres?

If you have an idea about those issues, tell us in the Steam Community forum!
If you encounter a bug, please head to the support page and contact us!”
