What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

Read Before You Buy: This aquatic arena shooter features 360 degrees of fluid movement, dynamic underwater environments and "easy to pick up" fast-paced action. Dive in with friends or boil strangers you meet in the queue. Polished 2-8 player matches are complete and ready NOW! We chose Early Access so we can make Tidal Shock with you.

We know competitive underwater games typically suck. We wanted to fix this with the help of the gaming community – offer something brand new to the shooter genre. With no one to copy, we (and you) are crafting a completely unique aquatic combat and movement system and what do you know...looks like so far we’re on the right track.

Gamerguysandgals says:
"Moonray Studios has jumped in with both feet with Tidal Shock, delivering an action-packed aquatic arena that requires even the finest twitch gamer to hone an entirely new set of skills."

Early Access Roadmap:

DEPTHMATCH 07/20: Unleash your watery violence in a super competitive team and solo deathmatch modes.

REACTOR 07/20: Charge your crew to victory in the "team version" of our core game mode.

PROGRESSION 07/20: Our performance and skill-based ranking system will determine if you are a guppy or a killer whale.

CONTROL 08/20: Seasaw battles will rage as teams fight to claim multiple reactor points and take the win.

LEVEL UP 08/20: 50 levels of rewards await our pre-season players. New skins, new sleds/trails, a crazy shield taunts system and loads of player customizations.

THE JUGGERNAUT 09/20: There is always a bigger fish in the Tidal Shock pond. Will it be you?

SOLO 12/20: Bots, Bosses and Barrels of Fish. Solo players can deepen their skills in several stand alone campaigns.

WHY BUY EARLY ACCESS?: Supporting indie devs makes alternative/innovative games like Tidal Shock possible. We don't have the cookie-cutter mechanics or the big-budgets but with your help, we’ll show those big guys that creative, original games can be successful.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Within the next 8-12 months with polished level designs, game modes and progression features. Once complete we will leave Early Access. However, we will continue to expand the depth of our core features even after our 1.0 release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Our goals for the Early Access development include:
  • More game modes: Duos, Teams and Squads
  • Additional environments
  • Additional weapon balancing
  • Expanded player progression system
  • More skins and customization
  • All new challenges
  • Matchmaking balancing

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Scroll down to the "About this game" section for more detailed information on what features are currently in the Early Access build of Tidal Shock.

Also, take a look at some demo footage on Youtube or Twitch before you buy.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes - the price for the final version of Tidal Shock will be different from Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We interact with our community through the official Tidal Shock [] Discord server[/url] and the Steam Community Discussion Forum.”

About This Game

Set deep underwater Tidal Shock is fast-paced, easy to pick up and hard to master. That’s right, the Tidal Shock arena is submerged and not confined to gravity. Bullets will rain down, snipers will lurk below and attacks can come from any angle. There’re respawns but no loadouts – shields, weapons and charge are pickups that you’ll drop on death. The question is, are you hunting for more or protecting what you have?

Tidal Shock has a winner take all objective. The player who slams 100 charge onto the ever-moving reactor will “tidalshock” the competition and earn a coveted “Charge Cube”

  • 4-8 multiplayer arena with one king of the hill objective
  • 7 aquatic weapons classes with 5 rarity levels
  • Dashes, blocking walls and a rideable torpedo sled!
  • Balanced for respawning, winner-takes-all tension
  • Free for all matches with all your Steam friends
  • Match stats and leaderboard
  • Flashy taunts!

Scattered around the map are charge cells that you’ll need to collect and bring to the Reactor, a glowing beacon that changes position every 60 seconds. The first player to fully charge the Reactor wins. Each Reactor position creates a new battleground, with different obstacles, map features and item spawns. Fittingly, you can also collect charge from fallen players, so sometimes the best offense is… a good offense. How you approach the Reactor will decide your fate. Will you race to it immediately to get there first? Will you attempt to predict its next location and set up camp? Will you try to intercept oblivious on their way to deliver charge? Or will you dive in guns blazing and test your mettle directly? Or will you mix it up, and choose your strategy based on your current weapon loadout? We can’t wait to see how gameplay emerges throughout the Tidal Shock Arena. Share your strategies on our Discord please.

The skins in Tidal Shock don’t represent classes or have powers, but they do represent you. The skin you wear, the weapon you carry and your position in the environment matter. When you shoot or move you glow. The more Reactor charge you carry, the more you glow as well. The environment is foggy and moody with both dark and light areas.

There are 5 skins you can earn in-game and 8 that can be purchased via DLC. As a small indie studio, we chose a DLC skins model to keep the base Tidal Shock game competitively priced.

Tidal Shock is different. We didn’t have a bunch of rules to follow or examples to copy when designing a 360 Degree Aquatic Arena . We set a dynamic stage with clear objectives and (hopefully) balanced combat mechanics. How Tidal Shock matches unfold, the winning strategies and styles of play will be set by players – you.

It's set in a sci-fi bathtub. You don't get cleaner than that.
