What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Lightphobe is an experimental multiplayer game that I'm creating as a solo dev. The biggest challenge I've faced throughout the game's development is in gathering feedback; especially on the multiplayer aspect of the game.

Throughout Early Access, I'll be constantly listening for feedback and incorporating as much of it into the game as possible. If all goes well, we'll have a truly fun and unique experience at the end of it all :)”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Lightphobe's full release is expected to happen in either Q4 2025 or Q1 2026; meaning the duration of Early Access is expected to be around 2 years.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The following features are planned for the full version:
  • singleplayer support (i.e. bot support on both sides)
  • unique abilities for the different Lightphobe loadouts
  • a new map
  • general improvements (e.g. game mechanics, visuals, AI, UI, FX, etc.)

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“All of the planned features listed above have now been implemented.

As of this writing, I'm working on a final update to the game's tutorial; after which the game will be ready for its 1.0 release. ”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“During Early Access, the base price of the game will gradually increase as new content is added. As of this writing, Lightphobe has reached its final base price (9.99 USD) and it will no longer be changed.

Note that a large promotional discount is currently planned for the 1.0 launch, so consider adding Lightphobe to your Steam wishlist if you'd like to be notified when that happens.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I would very much appreciate any feedback that you have about the game. You can provide feedback by simply sending a message in our Discord, or you can also use the game's feedback form. Providing feedback is optional but greatly appreciated!

Info about our upcoming playtests and how to join them will also be posted in our Discord.”

About This Game

Lightphobe is a game that's all about the satisfying feeling of knifing players in FPS games, and also the flip side of catching knifers in the act!

Invincible in the dark, Lightphobes must be exposed by a special light source before they can be killed. This additional game mechanic gives Lightphobes more agency to move around, but closing the gap and eliminating soldiers will still require cunning stealth skills and quick thinking.

No matter what side you pick, teamwork will be essential. Soldiers will need to watch each other's backs and revive each other in a timely manner, while Lightphobes will need to coordinate with one another to ambush the Soldiers.

Features

  • 7 different loadouts to choose from
  • 3 highly replayable multiplayer maps plus an extra Arena Challenge map (singleplayer only)
  • up to 16-player lobbies
  • offline singleplayer support through AI bots
  • built-in team voice chat and text chat
  • replay system for spectating past matches
  • community-run dedicated servers and peer-to-peer networking support means anyone can host a game, with official dedicated servers being available as well
