About This Game

You fall into the Third Nightmare with nothing. Beneath a shriveled lotus tree there is a leaf, which teaches you to jump. Around you spreads a cove with a wrecked ship, a handful of frightened villagers, and a chapel you can see but not yet reach. That's your way out... you hope.

ProtoDungeon: Episode III is a standalone entry in the prequel miniseries for The Waking Cloak - you don't have to play any of the other episodes to try this one! It's a few hours long - finishable in an evening, but with lots to discover.

The Cove and its Residents

  • A small, interconnected world you can see through in an evening - with no map, no waypoints, and no objective log.

  • A few souls are still here, scared and confused at what's happening to their world. Helping them won't fix everything, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try.

  • You'll see paths you can't take yet as you explore... try to remember those for later as the world opens up.

  • Flip the cove between day and night, but only at the strange monument of the sun and moon. Night opens some paths, and day opens others. The tide rises and falls. Men turn to monsters and back.

The Magic Leaf and the Sacred Flame

Four abilities - jump, swim, dash, and light - each open up the cove for further exploration to get closer to your goal: the mysterious chapel.

  • Take a leap of faith into the darkness and up cliffsides

  • Swim into secret grottoes and through a ruined ship

  • Dash across the landscape and past monsters

  • Summon fire to light the hidden things in the darkness... just don't let the flame die, as darkness itself will try to kill you.

Exploration is Key

  • This is a game about exploration, not fighting.

  • Almost nothing here can be killed - you'll have to work out how to get around enemies

  • A slime with hidden spikes, a howling mud statue, something in the water with too many eyes, and more.

Letter from the Dev

Hey everyone,

I'm a solo developer and a dad. I made this game in my spare time with love and care for the people around me - my online friends, the gamers in my family, even my kids (who barely know how to play any video games at this point lol). It's not perfect, but I'm proud of it, and I hope it's meaningful to you even in some small way, whether you're someone I know or a stranger to me.

Enjoy, and take care,

-Daniel / Studio Spacefarer
