What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We really love building games with the input of our players. Inkbound is designed to be a living game, updated over a long time period, and launching in Early Access gives us the opportunity improve the game based on player feedback ahead of our full release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We are aiming for an Early Access period of approximately one to two years.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to evolve the game world, story, and content while in Early Access. As a living game, we aim to update Inkbound as long as there is sustainable player interest. The "full version" of Inkbound is designed to continue to evolve. During Early Access we plan to improve our content pipelines to deliver updates on a regular cadence to players, improve balance, implement quality of life features suggested by the community, and improve stability.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Inkbound is fully playable with numerous hours of content, unlocks to discover, and challenging goals to complete. Over time, we plan to add more quests, character aspects (classes), villains (bosses), and more. In addition, we are still working on improving many things - user interface, early game tutorials, adding more voice over, improving performance, adding quality of life features, and so on.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to make a small increase to the price in the future.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We thrive on player feedback. Players can reach us via Discord, the Steam Community, and by submitting feedback directly in the game via the F8 key. The development team strives to read all feedback. We believe it’s our job to put players first and community feedback is a critical part of that.”

About This Game

Inkbound is a fluid turn-based roguelike that brings the best aspects of Shiny Shoe’s award-winning title, Monster Train, to an online world where the whimsical and dangerous magic of the written word comes to life.

Outside of combat, players move freely like an action game. Within the unique turn-based combat system players move freely, act simultaneously in multiplayer, and can rapidly utilize abilities. Go fast when the decisions are easy, go slow when the threat amps up and you need to strategize more deeply. It’s the best of both worlds.

The magical Atheneum contains all stories ever written. Each book becomes a portal to another world where you will face unique threats. Inkbound’s universe will continue to expand over time with new books, characters to meet, and challenges to overcome.

Explore a varied set of character classes while adapting your strategy during runs to craft powerful builds. With draftable abilities, ability upgrades, and hundreds of items to find there are many possible ways to play.

The Atheneum acts as a social hub where players can meet with friends and strangers to party up into groups of up to four. Take on challenges as a team and strategize together to determine the most synergistic builds.
